I'm an American who was a French minor in college -- 20 years ago. Much of my fluency has evaporated, but I enjoyed la Musee de al Vie Wallonne immensely. A little background: Belgium is split culturally between a Dutch north (Flanders) and a French...More

The museum is located in a nice old building, but I found little of interest inside. Some information about carnaval is alright. There's a guillotine, also alright. Some information about mining, but I had visited the mine in Blegy beforehand, so not much news there....More

We spent two hours in this museum because there is so much to see and learn. Highlights are the clay sculptures by Léopold Harzé, the documentation on how Wallonia came to be and their nostalgic toys exhibition. Word of advice: ask for a free audio-guide.

The exhibits were extremely varied and interesting. I speak French, so didn't look for English explanations, but I don't think there were (m)any. Occasionally I got lost, and finding your way out can be time-consuming.

I am sure many locals have never visited this museum but there are a lot of interesting things to see. Our favorites are the old photographic plates of local life and coal mining in the past century, and the example of an old classroom. There...More
