It was between 1818, and 1821, during the Dutch occupation, that the citadel was built in its current form. Throughout the kitchen, the bakery and the forge, you will discover the daily life of 400 soldiers that were living there. Don't forget to visite our new space 1914-1918, explaining all the fights that took place in dinant during the first world war.

Don't be fooled by the advertisement of the citadels. if you have your own car, drive up to the parking area. If you find a spot to take pictures from the city and the river from above, do that. Its not worth to pay entrance...More

The tour of the Citadel is interesting with a heavy focus of the part that Dinant played in World War I. The actual history of the Citadel itself is downplayed and more of a footnote to the battle of Dinant in WW I, and the...More

Very interesting, with some thought-provoking information on the First World War and how the Citadel was used during the conflict. Nice place to chill afterwards, with bar and restaurant and great views of Dinant.

Dear Mrs Karolina, -You are right, the guided tour is only in french and dutch because these are the national languages in Belgium. If we ad english to the tour, it would be too long for our visitors. So, the guide gives leaflets in other...More

Free parking at the top of the hill, and your ticket includes a gondola ride down to town. Museum-type presentations are set up in various rooms so you learn about the history of the German attack as well as life in the fort. Very interesting.

Hello, The guided tour is in french, but the guide give you a paper in English to follow the visit. It's true that you have to read, but if you do it without a guide, it would take the same time. The price (8,50 €)...More

We are visiting Dinant this summer and would love to visit the citadel, the problem is I have the most awful fear of heights and just wondered if I bit the bullet and took the cable car how long it take to get to the top. Any advice would be really appreciated.
