This modern building is in the center of town and is a bit alarming as it is not in harmony with the old buildings around. Still it has its attractions and since it is in an open space, one can get a good look. There are markets held under it, out of the rain, but can still be cold. We saw some musicians performing here.

Some people find it as a cool architectural pavilion and I also think the same as well but it could have been more especially when you think about the location (surrounded by old building), it kind of miss the opportunity to create something more. But i definitely give a credit for trying to be old but new. Even though I am not 100% convinced.

Unusual modern wooden structure tucked among the city’s medieval structures. Probably in another setting, it would be really cool, but it seems out of place in this locale.

Stadhal is a open canopy style building constructed between 2010-12 and situated at Poeljemarkt in the heart of the Historic City Centre. It is situated between Stadhuas and the Belfry.

In short, I didn't like this building very much. It is not an ugly building. However, architecturally speaking, it is a stark contrast to the everything else in the area and considering its surroundings, it sticks out not like a gem but a sore thumb instead.

Not sure if the locals like Stadhal or not. However, as much as I tried, I couldn't come around enjoying this building during our visit to Ghent. Stadhal just feels out of place in its present location and detracts from the quaint and lovely atmosphere in this area of Ghent and that is a shame.

Stadhal is contemporary wooden structure built in 2010-12 in the historic centre of Ghent. It is an awkward fit amongst the historic medieval buildings surrounding Stadhal and generally speaking feels out of place.

However, it was nice seeing the city make good use of Stadhal as a covered ice-rink as part of the Ghent Winter Festival. Opening hours roughly 11am to 10pm daily and entry fee €7 per skater.

We enjoyed seeing the families doing a bit ice-skating as we browsed the Xmas market. Good on them for finding a way to make us of Stadhal during the Xmas season.

It's almost as ugly as the block of concrete where the famous clock in withers, it obstructs the views to the lovely buildings Gent has, and it it has no function here whatsoever. Whoever thought this was a good idea should always have one wet sock on a foot, and all the chocolate in his cookies replaced by raisins.

Don't get me wrong - if this structure was used for anything other than graffiti or as a shelter from the rain, say, as a place to meet people or somewhere street performers would gather around. The Belfry, Cloth Halls, and the two Cathedrals as well as the many impressive manors surrounding the plaza give this place more than enough focus. The pavilion is unnecessary and, if you ask me, ugly.

The “Stadshal” (English: City Hall) is a large stand-alone canopy which protects pedestrians from rain and sun. It is also used as a shelter for concerts, gatherings and weekly markets. When I visited, there was a woman singing opera. The sound was like if you were in a music hall!

Erected in 2012, this strange modern contemporary wooden structure does not really fit into his environment.
It will not stand for the times...

We really still don't know what that random looking barn building is doing right there in this beautiful little town. It's not terribly bad, it's just random and not the right place for it in my opinion.
