St James Church is one of the oldest churches in Ghent, it has two beautiful towers in Romanesque architecture. The place around this church is also famous for the antique market you can find here on fridays, saturdays and sundays. This is also known as the centre of the festival "Gentse Feesten". The café "Trefpunt" is known for its performances... More

Saint James or Sint Jacob is the same church, A beautiful church inside and out. Its design is Romanesque in the medieval era. It is a catholic church in Ghent.

This church is quite large and has as it's main feature it's two large steeples to the front. I only saw it from the outside but it is open at the weekends to go inside.

Why for travelers? Because this church was built in 1093 and consecrated to Saint James (Santjago). Most likely, the construction work had to do with the arrival of pilgrims during their journey on the Camino de Santiago. They were called first tourists. The crusaders were the second ones. And after Thomas Cook was born. This church has romanesque style but... More

It is out of the way and after all the big churches in the center this will not be in almost anyone list. But this is a big mistake, it is an old church older than the others and the stile is not something common in Flemish cities. The architecture is not typical, the interior is different so if you... Worth walking to. The church is very typical of the dutch/Flemish style with vast open spaces inside. There is a flea market around the outside on certain days of the week.

I bought a large tartan pure wool blanket for 5 euros here, and a brutalist style German vase for 10 euros. I visited the flea market over three days, every morning Friday, saturday and Sunday. The stalls are the same. As you would expect, all the books on sale are non english but there are plenty of them. There are... More

We spent the day in Ghent during the festival yesterday - amazing church - beautiful art, history and experience . During the festival we were able to enjoy a champagne lunch inside this most wonderful church. A must if you are enjoying the festival this week!
