Like in Oxford or Cambridge, the university is located throughout the city, with a lot of historical colleges. You have to stroll through Leuven in order to discover them all. Unfortunately the main picture in this article isn't a university building but the Holy Trinity High School located close to the main university hall at the Old Market.

I was fortunate to be able to participate in an intensive course at KULeuven. The organisers programmed lectures on different campuses of the uni. Each Campus was beautifully unique and the history was extremely interesting. The university has many campuses spread throughout the city, a fantastic way of seeing the sights is by public transport between the campuses. Each building has fantastic spots of peace in unexpected green spaces. The buildings and grounds are cared for and beautiful.

I was invited by the School of Theology at Leuven University - what a privilege to be in a historical site for education and which continues to offer cutting edge theological research and other disciplines. I enjoyed interacting with staff and students and consider myself privileged to have had the opportunity to visit this historical site of learning!

Leuven is definitely a University City as KU Leuven is spread across the city. The old campus is at the heart of town, in Oude Markt. There is also Gasthuisberg Campus. The main asset of this city is the ammount of bicycles. Feels like there are more bicycles than people! Parking lots for bicycles exist everywhere, of which KU Leuven is no exception. Mixes old, interesting architecture with the newer trends in technology and architecture perfectly.
Only know it as a tourist, not a student, but students abound in the city. Gladly helped a couple of them gathering some data for their Master Degree, people are friendly.

The university buildings are all over town. We went to the library and tower, and up on the tower they show you the layout of so many university buildings. This is clearly a college town. So we loved being in the prescence of the university.

On a very cold day (-7 degrees C) the public facilities here were a godsend. Walking through an ancient wooden door from the street into the peace and tranquility of this place of learning was amazing. The café and shop was quiet yet full of students with their laptops rather than books. Much on offer to suit all tastes. Contrasting the old with the new.

I'm not too big of a fan of the campus or university itself, but the forest trails just off campus (near the sports complex) are great. You have kilometers and kilometers of dirt paths through the Belgian forests that are perfect for a long run or a bike ride.

That's what an University should look like. Old, impressive, monumental... it shows the knowledge which is taught here. One of the greatest universities in Europe and also very important in the world. I would have loved to have graduated from this particular University but sadly I just spend a semester there. As a tourist you should visit the Registration hall on Naamsestraat including the graduation hall upstairs. On the top floor you have a beautiful view over the City but I'm not sure if everyone can go there because I saw it during a guided city tour. Don't miss out on a visit to the different buidlings. The University is basically Leuven. The KUL bought a lot of houses in Leuven and you will hardly find a street where you won't find a house owned by the University. If the students are gone during the vacations Leuven gets quiet.

Are there many "older" students?... doing theological studies? How often do classes usually meet? Are there many classes in English?
Written November 7, 2018
Apologies for taking long to respond! Yes there are older students doing theological studies. I think most classes are in English. I was there for a week attending post graduate seminars. Hope this is helpful and once again apologies for taking long to respond.
