The most important of Bruges' towers stands 83 metres tall. It houses, amongst other things, a carillon with 47 melodious bells. In the reception area, waiting visitors can discover all kinds of interesting information about the history and working of this unique world-heritage protected belfry. Those who take on the challenge of climbing the tower can pause for a breather on the way up in the old treasury, where the city's charters, seal and public funds were kept during the Middle Ages, and also at the level of the impressive clock or in the carillonneur's chamber. Finally, after a tiring 366 steps, your efforts will be rewarded with a breath-taking and unforgettable panoramic view of Bruges and her surroundings.

Great visit

Great to see the clock mechanism as well as stunning views. About 40 mins queue which went quickly enough, reasonably priced

Visited with husband and our baby for our anniversary. We'd tried to go the day before but had realised it was not a pram friendly experience so we ventured back the next day with baby in the carrier - wise move! The queue was fairly long but made more bearable by purchasing some gluhwein from the Christmas Market in the... More

I just had my second trip up these stairs (once again a with Dutch cousin) in this beautiful tower, and it is amazing! The fresh breezes and beautiful views at the top are worth the climb. (This is not for anyone handicapped or who has a fear of heights.) If you have time, wait for the bells to ring. It's... More

Make sure you are reasonably fit and don't suffer from vertigo! Just worth going to the top to get your bearings

The Belfort is an amazing building both architecturally and aesthetically. To climb the 336 steps will cost between €8 & €10 which we felt was worth it. You might have to wait as there can only be 70 people in the Belfort at any one time. Once you've managed the steps (there are stops on the way up/down where you... More

Not for the faint of heart, that is, if you are unfit. The steps become more like ladders the higher you get, and you will end up climbing them. Great views from the top, make sure you stay for the bell chime!

The views from the top, while magnificent, were overshadowed by my love of music and the detail the signs go into on the history of the bell ringing. Worth the visit but climbing the stairs was a workout!

Had to visit this place and climb all those stairs as a fan of the film. Very narrow staircase in places and very tight as you make your way up and others come down. Great view of Bruges and very interesting to see the clock mechanism working away.

The first thing we did in Bruges was climb to the top of the tower. The view from the top was great and there weren't many people up there so it was easy to get a good view of all directions around the tower. The climb to the top was fun and a little challenging-the stairs get smaller and smaller... More

Great experience with exceptional views of the city. Good few stairs to Navigate but definitely worth the ascent for the end product.
