A church with lots of history!

I like this church. It’s quite unique and it has a lot of historic events. As I approached it, it looked quite majestic, a church worthy for a king. I wasn’t too far from it! It... read more

I like this church. It’s quite unique and it has a lot of historic events. As I approached it, it looked quite majestic, a church worthy for a king. I wasn’t too far from it! It used to be connected with a castle. However, while the church was renovated in 15th century, the castle was abandoned and eventually destroyed. This... More

The Onze Lieve Vrouwe Kerk has been beautifully restored. The outside is Roman/Gothic in style, while the interior has some gothic and baroque elements. The highlights are the chapel of the Counts of Flanders (all of them painted along the walls of the chapel), the painting by Van Dyck and the modern stained glass windows. While the stained glass windows... More

The best thing about this cathedral is the chapel with depictions of all the counts of Flanders. Not to be missed.

I visited the church several times. It is beautifully restored. There is a real sacred atmosphere. It has superb modern stained glass windows. and there is a picture by Van Dyck. This church was once the church of the count of Flanders, who had his castle next to it. The saint Catherine chapel, also called the Chapel of the Counts... More

Interesting church; it contains the quite interesting chapel of the Counts of Flanders. You will find them all in the pleasant chapel (about 1000 years of history!!!). Behind the choir, at the ceiling, see the "replicas" of the "Golden spurs". The real ones are to be seen in the 1302 museum

What makes it stand apart, is the link with the former earls/dukes/... of Flanders. Not only the Guldensporenslag but also the separate room with touch screen is impressive. Nice.

This cathedral is extremely well conserved. His inside ambient has an interesting charme by the calm music playing.
