Nice castle

While it's not the largest castle it is since one. You can look into the distance and see Spain. Right in the center of the historic district.

What we really enjoyed here were the great views from the top of the castle across the landscape, and you can just make out a few of the wall that make up the star shaped enclosure of Elvas. If it's hot during the summer the walk there can be quite something but you shouldn't miss this if you are visiting... More

This is probably the best of the tourist attractions in this sleepy town near the Spanish border. Not yet developed to it full potential it would be a shame not to visit this place where so much history is locked into its walls. The entrance fee is modest. Be warned that this attraction closes for lunch between 13.00 and 14.30... More

Portugal must have the best castles in the world! Marvao, Sortelha, etc. etc. This one was a bit uninspiring, but the views are worth the entrance fee... we had a small kitten which was our official guide for the duration of our visit - cute!

One of the many great fortifications in this area. Only €1 to enter, with leaflet giving you some information about the castle. Great views from here across towards Badajoz in Spain, and the other fortifications of Elvas

It's a castle but its really just a shell, with some battlements that have nice views of the town and the countryside. If you want a real fort pop over to forte de senhora graca just north of Elvas - you can see it from the walls of the castle. There's been a recent restoration and the results are well... More

It's one of the most charming medieval strongholds. A must to be visited with a superb view over a lovely landscape.

This is a nice, short walk around an important castle...views are also impressive just outside, so the experience of walking on the walls is what you pay for.

Not much to see but on the other hand – its free! Climb the walls and towers and find some nice views of the north fortress and the eastern tip of the city fortifications. You’ll easily whisk past this area in 20 min. Café on the location.
