The views, always dependent on weather, are astounding in all 360 degrees. The labor that went into its construction is astounding. The structures and domiciles are fascinating. The Templars were here. A truly superlative place.

The castle looks well maintained and well preserved keeping the intervention to the minimum. It is nice to see a place 'raw' as it used to be, without any security handrails or fences. That gives a flair of authenticity. I recommend walking along the fortifications...More

Very well kept castle and with excellent views from the countryside all around . We got there a bit late but still spent a good 1 and half hours exploring and than watched the sun set and the castle light up! Well worth the trip.

The castle itself is ok. You get a leaflet with the most important info. There's no info inside. Most people will like to visit it for the wonderful views. You can climb the tower and watch over the valley of Marvão.

Marvao Castle is truly incredible. Its location perched up high on a hill, paired with a beautiful surrounding landscape of rocky outcrops and its endless fortifications to explore, makes for a wonderful day of exploration!

Marvao Castle is a jewel both for the beautifully maintained fortifications and the views from them. In an area of high crags, Marvao overtops everything and provides views stretching well over 100 km to the east out across Spain. Most recently in 1762, the castle...More

Marvao is much higher than the surrounding area, much higher than Castelo de Vide which you can see from Marvao. There was an English leaflet that helped guide us round. It's not very big, but the views are superb. Don't go along the walls unless...More

Marvão castle is the best preserved castle we have visited in Portugal. It has a beautiful garden, very well cared, it has toilets and shops. It is a lovely experience, because the view from Alentejo and Spain is amazing!

This is the most amazing hill top village that we have explored in Portugal. The views from the ramparts of the old castle are truly amazing. We plan to visit it again next year.
