Statue of Infante Dom Henrique or Henry the Navigator was behind the golden age of Portuguese exploration in the 15th century which led to Portugal becoming the richest country in the world. He was a wealthy statesman and trader who financed expeditions in return for a share. Died in Sagres in 1460.

Located in front of the church Santa Maria, the statue of infante Dom Henrique is, indeed, a nice statue. But it remains a statue on a square, as many others in the world

Beuatiful square with children playing in the fountains during the afternoons. All nicely done with the best intentions, some trees and the church in the background. Unfortunately, we saw this also on a Sunday morning in August, after the British hordes of drunken touristis used the square during the night and left behind all kinds of waste. A complete devastation and about time they are driven back from where they came, until a minimum of respect is finally shown!

Easy to find if you walk along the rivetside towards the castle. Good statue sith a fountain in front which children seem to enjoy.

The area is worth going to, not the statue. Enjoy the old town, yeah it's a bit touristy but enjoyable, and note the nearby Lagos, Delegacao de Alféndega where slaves were first sold. FYI, the Portuguese invented plantation slavery, the Spanish took it over and brought it to the New World, where the British took it over and brought it to America. Thanks a lot guys.

Odd to have a seated statue and it did not do justice to Henry the Navigator. There is a much better statue at Sagres Fort

This is not a hotel but a statue of the son, i.e. Infante, of the King of Portugal. He was one of the brave Explorers at the time that they believed the World to be FLAT and they might sail OFF THE EDGE!
