From the outside, the castle looks impressive and has been kept in a good condition. The entrance fee was reasonable and the views of the surrounding area from the castle were very good. We felt there was nothing in and around the building to explain...More

Sadly only the red sandstone walls remain but it is well worth visiting for its history and the lovely views you can get from the openings in the walls. The castle was built in the 11th century on a former Roman fortress and occupied by...More

Silves Castle is an impressive walled castle. Take note of the cisterns that were built under part of the castle. Plenty of steps, so if physically challenged I would not reccommend. There is a Medieval Fair that runs in mid August adjacent to the castle----...More

For once, you can really see where your entrance money is being spent. This old castle has been lovingly restored. And for a very reasonable entrance fee. It has some wonderful views of the town and the surrounding countryside.
