This place took a minute to drive to (and just find in general), but once we arrived, we knew it was worth the trek. It's so beautiful and unlike anything I'd ever seen before. When we went (late August), the weather was perfect. It can get crowded, but thankfully it wasn't when we arrived around 3pm, although it did get more crowded later on.

Just like all swimming holes in the Azores, this isn't a lay out beach-y swimming pool. You get there, throw your crap on some flat rocks, trust that the ladder leading into the natural pool will hold you (it will), and that no one will steal your stuff. Water is cold, but you get used to it. I would definitely recommend swimming shoes, MY ONLY REGRET.

Definitely worth a visit.

What an amazing place! A well-marked sign marks the path to this natural pool. Via a rocky and partially concrete-stepped path, one can gain access to this blue-green Lagoon. We passed a few people on the way to the site but once we arrived at the pool, we were alone. You should definitely bring water shoes. The area is very rocky. A single metal ladder allows swimmers to gain entry into the water. At the far end of the pool, the ocean water continuously enters and leaves the secluded body of water. When we visited, The skies were overcast and the periodic rays of sun blessed the water and surrounding cliffs.....truly a magical place.

We traveled in late April of 2023. It was too early in the year and the weather was very rainy and windy. I highly suggest waiting until late May or June. July and August are the busiest months and the best weather. We were told that September and October are still good and not so busy.
We visited San Miguel, Terceira, and Sao Jorge. Sao Jorge was the smallest and not a lot going on. It was very beautiful and I can only imagine even more so if the weather was better.
We were there to track down ancestors.
We were told there were more cows on the island than people. I think that is true.
It seemed like the younger people all leave after high school, unless they work in a dairy.

We loved it. We will go back with our family. It was easy to find. We did have water shoes which did make it easier. There is a café nearby for ice cream or drinks. Adoramos!

Best natural pool ever, created by nature. A must see and enjoy in São Jorge!
It's the best spot if you want to swim in a natural and quiet place. The best in São Jorge.

Artur, who guided us on the full-day tour, was very kind and generous. He took us to several fajãs and natural pools, especially Simão Dias. He is a native of the island of São Jorge and knowledgeable about its characteristics and particularities. We loved it. 😘😉

Splendid preserved natural site, cool water even in summer but magnificent view and pleasant swimming. Access is via rocks and steps, so strollers, coolers and bulky packages should be avoided. There is also no beach on arrival so going there is not recommended with young children.
