About
Futurismo is a big reference in the whale watching in the Azores with 30 years of knowledge. We are dedicated to science and research. Between 2008 and 2017 we have registered more than 11 thousand sightings in a universe of more than 20 different whale and dolphin species. We are dedicated to offer our guests the best nature experiences: Whale and Dolphin Watching Tours, Swimming with Dolphins, Hiking Tours, Bicycle Tours (MTB and road bike), Canyoning, kayaking, Stand Up Paddle, Jeep Safari and Van Tours. The Azores archipelago is a 9 Island little world in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. We are just a two hours flight from Lisbon and Porto and less than 4 hours flight from the US. Between the Azorean islands you can travel by boat or by plain.

Had a wonderful time swimming with dolphins with the Futurismo team who expertly took us everything we needed to know from the moment we arrived until the end of the trip. I loved the fact that we were only 8 people that allowed us all to be with the dolphins 2-3 times. The captain was very skilled at positioning us in the right area and making sure we were safe in and out of the water. Thank you.

We went on the cycle tour of the crater lakes, Sete Cidades. It was an enjoyable journey to the crater lakes stopping off on the way at the Vista do Rei. The guide was very engaging and knowledgeable, all the bikes were in freat condition and all safety measures where explained.

Had a great time on the water with Futurismo’s knowledgeable crew. The catamaran had two decks for viewing any marine life. We saw spotted Atlantic dolphins, a sail whale, and a very curious sperm whale.

We went swimming with dolphins with Futurismo which was amazing. Really well organised, informative, and engaged and friendly staff. It was clear that they cared about the animals and did everything at their pace rather than forcing any encounters. We were on a small boat of 8 people and we all got the chance to go in the water with the dolphins twice (3 times legal max number of times). We were also given some nice hot tea to warm up afterwards!

The tour company was extremely professional, very informative throughout the entire 3 hour cruise. It is promoted as whale and dolphins watching, the catch is, there are lots of dolphins to watch, but only one whale. The whale supposedly dives for 50-70 minutes, so timing is everything. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed my excursion and hope to return to Ponta Delgada in the Spring. I will definitely consider this company’s tour to see a different whale migration then.

Great trip, wonderful local guide!
The trip starts with a visit to a tea plantation which is really nice and relaxing. Then you head to the area with volcanic activity and see lots of pools bubbling angrily was boiling water.
Finally a trip to the hot baths which are really relaxing and surrounded by amazing gardens full of tropical plants.
The guide tells you all about the Island and it's history, fauna and flora. The views are gorgeous. Its a lovely and relaxing way to spend a day with plenty of time at every location

My daughter and I went on the half day whale and dolphin boat. Everything from start to finish was wonderful. The ticket office and boats are right in the marina of Ponta Delgado. We could choose to be on a speedboat or catamaran. We chose the catamaran because of my knee issues. After a briefing by Maria, one of the marine biologists on the boat, we set out and saw dolphins and a rare Bryde's whale. (They have 2 blowholes!). It was fun to see the excitement of the crew as dolphins and whales were spotted. But the thing that I will always remember was the compassion that the crew took on a woman who got extremely sea sick on the return trip back to Ponta Delgado. It started to rain and this particular woman became very sick. Maria lay her on the floor and sat cross-legged next to her, speaking soothingly to her, applying cold compresses to her face, removing her shoes and socks, covering her with a blanket and constantly patting her back. It was so touched. They are a professional group and I highly recommend them.

My husband and I went on the half-day Swim with the Wild Dolphins Tour out of Ponta Delgada. Everything about this excursion was phenomenal! There was a pre-briefing to allow us to know what to expect which was very helpful and made the trip run very smoothly. Our guide Lara was excellent!!! She was excited to share her love of dolphins with us and made certain that we each got to have an exceptional experience swimming with the dolphins while making certain that we were not stressing out the dolphins. The first group of dolphins we encountered didn't seem to want to engage- so we moved on. This excursion was the top activity during our time in the Azores and probably one of the top excursions we have ever taken while travelling!!! Amazing time was had by all!

We really enjoyed our tour, we saw a lot of animals and the guide was great.
Unfortunatly, we had a bad start.
When we arrived, the lady at the desk was telling us, we didn’t pay for the tour.
However, we already paid the tour. She was very unfriendly and wouldn’t believe us. We showed her 2 times our payment on our banking app and after a while she gave us our access pass.
It wasn’t nice, she didn’t believe us.
Unfortunatly, we had a bad start.

We participated in the Whale Watching tour and the kayaking/paddle boarding at Sete Cidades. Kayaking was so scenic and tranquil, and allowed us to absorb our surroundings and be active. Highly recommend! The whale watching was also fun (we saw Bottlenose Dolphins and Sperm Whales) but I would have preferred a more science-based tour.

Anything special you would note about the 4th month old?Did you do the 1/2 or full day? Did they provide a life jacket? Was there a place in cabin for feeding/changing? I'd like to take my 8mo this July.

Go for the catamaran rather than the zodiac. Half day trip is adequate and lifer jackets are provided but not sure about the sizes given you have a baby but you can sit inside iof helpful.

Hi,
We're coming in early May. Would you recommend a catamaran trip (we've got a toddler)? Is the risk of getting sea-sick lower on a Zodiac or a catamaran? Also, have we got a fair chance of seeing a real whale at this time of year? My eldest is very keen on whales, but we have seen only common dolphins, porpoises and long-finned pilot whales so far. And we're coming on purpose to get a glimpse of a proper whale!

The best time to see whales here in the Azores is from March to June since the baleen whales are passing by during that period of time. We do have our resident species that can be seen during the rest of the year: sperm whales, common dolphins, Risso's dolphins, bottlenose dolphins.
During the first month of 2018 we already encountered 7 different whale and dolphin species! You can check this at our blog - azoreswhales.blogspot.pt
And you can experience a whale and dolphin tour with children of any age. For this cases we do recommend the catamaran, a more comfortable boat for them. We wait for you in May! 😊

Thank you for your interest. You can experience a whale and dolphin tour with children of any age. For this cases we do recommend the catamaran, a more comfortable boat for them. The best season to sail with kids would be the summer time where the mornings are more soft in terms of temperatures and winds. Year round we can always see our resident species such as common dolphins, sperm whales, bottlenose dolphin and Risso’s dolphins. We wait for you soon! 😊

Hello Jessica, In September we have usually our resident species: Sperm whales, common dolphins, risso's dolphins and bottlenose dolphins. The percentage of sightings changes every year so you can check our graphics from last years on our blog: Azoreswhales on the statistics bar.
