Eastern São Miguel boasts unique landscapes and attractions, but ticking them all off can be difficult. Travel with ease to these remote locations on a full-day tour from Ponta Delgada. Visit Nossa Senhora da Paz, Furnas Lake, Vila Franca do Campo, Pico do Ferro viewpoint, and Ribeira dos Caldeirões. Enjoy a “cozido” lunch and relax at natural wonders with a small group. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included.

We visited the planation in combination with a few other stops. I did not know that pineapples were grown in the Azores. Turns out they have to be grown in green houses and it takes two years, instead of one tear in the tropics. The Azoreans are an industrious lot. A great tour, with a taste of pineapple liquorin the dift shop.

We visit in August 2020 during the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic. The visit is self-guided, which is good. You can see the several greenhouses with different stages of the pineapple growth (all clearly marked) and they give you a leaflet explaining all details. The greenhouses and area you visit is the oldest part of the plantation which is also good, since you have a the feeling you travel in time. There is a souvenir shop, with limit capacity restrictions. All staff is genuinely nice. There is a esplanade service and tables to eat outside, that has a great pineapple cake and a superb pineapple fresh juice (too die for!!!). All very clean and safe, you have to wear a mask.

We did this tour through P&O Cruises during our transatlantic voyage on Arcadia! This tour was a half day tour of around 3.5 hours, starting with a tour of the island by coach, then ascending to the top of the mountain to see the fire lakes and then finishing at the pineapple plantation where they grow a unique type of pineapple - AKA tiny pineapples! It was an enjoyable morning tour, and the scenery on a clear day is out of this world! The pineapple plantation was also interesting, however I think to charge £62 each to take us to the top of a mountain and then see some little pineapples is verging on extortion! I’d recommend doing the tour, but because of the price it’s one of those experiences I probably won’t repeat.

It was my first time visiting a pineapple plantation. It was very interesting to get to know about all the process. There’s a shop inside with lovely staff, and we’ve been offered to try ananas licor. Loved it!

Have read that one of the best produce to try is pineapples in Ponta Delgada. At the end of our private tour, we were brought here by our guides. I was excited that we finally got to try some. After strolling through the green houses and the grounds, we found the little gift shop and had to ask about fresh pineapples. Only then that they went to the back and brought out the cut-up pineapple pieces in a cup, 4E each and the pineapple juice was 3E a cup. I was disappointed at how sour both were and with that expensive price tag. It was nice to see the place but you can skip the pineapple.
