Very interesting spot

Came here with my adult children and their significant others. We all enjoyed descending into the volcano. Hold on tight to the handrails.

This is an amazing experience! The opportunity to go inside an actual extinct volcano is tremendous. The hole at the top and the lake at the bottom are surreal. worth the trip!

Amazing spot. Enter a real extinct Vulcan . Go down 100 m and look to the open top . Vegetation and lava walls ,a small lake at the bottom. Not to lose.

Wow. To actually climb in the cold of a volcano and look up and out into the sky is just surreal. Must stop here, be prepared for a lot of stairs!

Seriously guys, don't know what else to say. You take a short trek down into the heart of the volcano (stairs, with handrails, so safe for everyone), and unlike many lava tubes I've been in, the sheer size of it helps you appreciate the intensity of its explosive past. The variety of colors, textures, shapes, etc. brings life and meaning... More

Where else can you climb down inside the magma chamber of an extinct volcano?? Look up through the cone opening to see the sky, climb down to see a small, clear lake of rainwater. Absolutely stunning, do not miss this.

We visited here on the first day of March while in Terceira in the Azores Islands. The stairs to the bottom are steep and seem to get steeper as you climb out, but there are not many places where you can climb through an extinct lava tube. The attraction is also cheap at only 6 euros. Worth seeing.

The Algar do Carvao is a great cave! What makes it stand out from other ones is that it was formed by 2 volcanos. When you go in, the first thing you see when you look up is a big hole, where light shines in. It is very beautiful. You can see the silica stalactites hanging down, and a big... More

It was almost like reliving the movie "journey to the center of the earth". Deep in the chasm created eons ago, the volcano experience was unforgettable. As other reviewers have stated, there are many slippery steps descending to bottom. The volcano is open at very restricted times ( In February 3:00 - 5:00 PM).
