A "must visit" that we found rather disappointing in comparison to so many interesting and richly decorated churches of Angra.

Outstanding example of early church construction. Climb to the top for outsanding views of the Angra harbor as well. Fall weather in Angra can be outstanding

This a beautiful cathedral that was completely destroyed in a 1980 7.2 earthquake and has been wonderfully restored. The cathedral is open to visitors but please be respectful; it is still an active cathedral.

While visiting Angra you must stroll past Se Cathedral. I did not venture inside but just strolling around the outside was nice. Beautiful building with a long history.

We went into the cathedral on our first day on the island. We thought it was a little plain for being the main cathedral of the archipelago. We then found out about its history which included crumbling apart during the 1980 earthquake followed by a fire.

Worth a visit because it's the cathedral of Angra, but other churches and convents in the area have more interesting features for tourists. The steeples, with their chevron pattern, are visible from many places around town. A statue of Pope John Paul II is outside, commemorating his visit to this church.

Se Cathedral was a perfect mix of history and religion. You have to pay two euros to go in, but its worth it. Its very peaceful, beautiful, majestic. A staple in Angra.

The Se Cathedral is really a beautiful piece of history. Right in the center of town, it's color departs from a lot of buildings in the Azores, but the architecture remains quintessentially Portuguese with impeccable symmetry in the facade. Unfortunately it is not set up completely for tourism so you must do some of your own research beforehand as you... More
