Well worth the effort to get to the top of the weather is clear. We trekked up the road using Google Maps. When he headed down, we used the easier walking path with steps and landings and beautiful plants and flowers that ended in the botanical gardens (Duke of Terceira’s Garden).

While searching for a parking spot to see some of the better known attractions we came upon this location and stopped for a look. The 10m high obelisk monument is a tribute to King Pedro IV who ruled Portugal from Angra during the Civil War in Portugal (1828-34). This was also the site of the first castle built in this area in 1474. The view from here over the world heritage site of Angra is very nice and worth a visit.

So the memorial itself is nothing special but the view is. So get up there.
You can drive up but may b challenging finding a parking spot, or walk through park on switchback steps up. On the way up or down through the park there are sitting/resting areas.
Beautiful flowers and I am told the flowers are minimal in February.

It's quite a hike to walk up all the steps to get here, and the monument itself didn't blow me away. However, the view is lovely, so it's best to come when the sun is out.

For some real exercise and a rewarding panorama view of the city below, take time to walk up from the gardens and enjoy the scene.

The views from this perch are incredible. The most interesting way to get here is via the 100 step climb from the Botanical Gardens - each step gives you yet another amazing view.

This view and experience is worth the hike. I did it twice during my stay, the first time for the view and the second time was pure magic. I loved the birds in the trees, and there are thousands of them singing, I loved the sounds of the church bells, the fountain in the middle and of course the view! Sunrise and sunsets are amazing. It is a stair master, but remember it does not have to be a race.

Memory Hill (Outeiro da Memoria) overlooks Angra do Heroismo. This memorial to D. Pedro IV was constructed in mid 19th century and made using the stones of an old castle built here circa 1474. The site provides an excellent vantage point for you to capture an overview of the city. From here you can see many of the city landmarks including The Se Cathedral, The Misericordia (The Blue Church, and first hospital) Generais Palace (a former Jesuits College), and much more.

Well worth the effort and the sweat.. The plants, trees, ponds and flowers are beautiful and every corner gives unique views on Angra, Montebrasil and the surrounding ocean.

The hike isn’t that bad to get to the top and there is some parking at the top although it is limited. Really nice views of the city up there.
