This is an open-air museum free of charge. Basically, you can walk along the salt fields and read quite a lot of information on salt production in Aveiro (both in English and Portuguese). It's a quiet place a bit off the centre but informative for children and adults alike.
We have seen flamingoes here, amazing! And this at only 13 minutes walking distance from the city center. Highly recommended.
An interesting insight into an important local industry and some great low key birdwatching as well even for novices.
This is a place that everybody should visit, its Aveiro and its history, connected to the sea and fishermen and the hard labour of going to Atlantic Ocean for the catch of our famous "bacalhau" very important
Best to use a free bike or walk along the canal for 25 minutes. Small, but interesting. Another salt pan behind the university is equally nice as much more bird life--even migrating flamingos if you are lucky about 20 minutes opposite direction from town.
