Family trip to Coimbra

Peaceful and quiet experience. A must in Coimbra city, an University City, very much attended by students in fair weather.

We were just surprised that more people were not out enjoying the gorgeous park since we had such lovely weather. The river views are beautiful and the walk among the trees very tranquil.

We walked for at least 30 minutes along the river bank There is a great tree lined path and also a pedestrian only bridge that takes you over to the other side.

Parque Verde (Green Park) is located on the banks of the River Mondego. It has recently been extended, taking land from a large orange grove at its southern end. There are a small number of play activities for children and often it is possible to hire small cars for them to drive along the pathway. There is a giant bear,... More

go to the park, bring your food and have a lovely picnic. Enough shelter under trees and the mondego is safe to swim.In summer here are inflatable castles for kids (you need to pay a euro or so) and you can rent a canoe or learn to Sub ("canoe on surfboard")

Due to the recently river floods the restaurants and sncks have been closed, but the President of the Town Hall has said that it will soon be open again. We can board a boat that will taken you from one bridge to the other. Nice to take photos.

This urban oasis is perfect for late day walks of simply cooling off on a hot summer day. There is so much to do here - camping, swimming (public pool and a 'beach' area), water sports (ie: kayak rentals), BBQ areas, cafes, restaurants, walking trails and plenty of grassy areas to have a picnic or simply relax. This park straddles... More

Loved walking through this park. Nice space - close to the river The giant bear was pretty cool to see/climb on and beautiful views of Coimbra from this side of the river!

We headed down to the riverfront to eat at one of the four restaurants listed in the guide and were disappointed to find them all closed and looking dishevelled. We did not realise they had been flooded. What. Shame. It is such a beautiful location with lovely views across the river and up and down the park. Still worth a... More

How is it possible that people are allowed to build cafes, restaurants, etc so close to the river? The recent heavy rains caused disasterous amounts of damage in and around the river banks.
