W Don’t go to Coimbra without stopping here. Follow up your tour with a nice walk through the botanical garden.

Walking in the Coimbra University is walking through history. You see the places were kings were crowned. You see the first deans of the university - really fascinating

Beautiful university with outstanding history. Be prepared for steps and walking. If on a tour, as we were with Viking, you will get a large amount of information. Fabulous views and look for the old student jail.

One of the oldest universities in Europe with lovely old buildings. The students dress in black robes which they wear to class as they do in other parts of Portugal. Dressed like the Harry Potter characters from which JK Rowling got her inspiration while teaching...More

It would be a shame to visit just the library, which is a real treasure, and miss out on the gorgeous chapel or ceremony rooms in the old royal palace. The Chapel is small but perfect, with a fabulous organ, XVIIth century colourful tiles on...More

Many buildings, the main campus is particularly nice. No places to eat that were open on Easter Sunday.

One of the oldest universities in the world (although not in its present location - take the tour :) This is one of the highlights of Coimbra. In fact, we spent no time in town, which is OK, but not worth the trip alone.

So not sure why the first photo for the university if on the other side of the river but it was really interesting. Definitely don't miss it. I mean otherwise why did you come to the university town anyway? Fado lover?

Some stunning architecture and in places great views down to the town. Great frontispieces to some of the university buildings and it is possible to peek into most without paying for them all. Recommended.

Hello! If you want to take the guided tour, or traveling with a big group you may book it in advance. If not you may take the ticket and visit the University at your convenience.
