A great place for a walk, in the snow or on the ice, with a lot of wind usually, but nevertheless amazing... not so good to ski, compared with Alps or other better places in Spain, but nature is beautiful.

Unfortunately my fiancée and I were unable to ski at Serra da Estrella because of road closures to the summit. While I understand that skiing is not by any standard a priority (or even an afterthought) for most people in Portugal, I would cla that the roads could be kept open and safe with only a small investment in appropriate snow plowing machinery etc. This would definitely be benefitial for the businesses at the summit in general (vinho, queijo, chouriço) and the ski area in particular!…

We visited this place during the summertime. There is a wonderful view, with a nice local commerce where you can taste delicious cheeses and other local food.

Serra da estrela ski resort has limited slopes and conditions are not always the best, though is a good place to start practising winter sports and the staff at the ski resort is super friendly. Definitely a place to go for a winter weekend experience.
