- Krishnan RHayward, California230 contributionsViews are great especially coastalWe took a little day trip and organized ourselves to Sintra, Portugal. The vista view points are very nice. You can see the light house and it faces the Atlantic Ocean. Around 1PM, not too much wind and some sun made it comfortable. A must visit if you plan to come to SintraVisited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten December 31, 2023

- The_Concierge_8Trinidad and Tobago3,789 contributionsThe detour here is worth the drive when visiting Sintra! Breathtaking! Try to go on a sunny, clear day!It truly is a sight to behold the further point of continental Europe where the sloping land and its gorgeous lighthouse meets the sea. The blue blue sea was beautiful. On a clear sunny day the drive to this point is winding and scenic. There are public restrooms for the usual € 0.50 cents, visitor center, a souvenir shop and restaurant / bar. A good place to plan a little break for lunch for an hour and to stretch your legs before continuing on.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten May 9, 2024
- AniaPoznan, Poland581 contributionsMarch is a great time to visitThis place is one of the must-see in the area. So you expect crowds. Always. Everywhere. But surprisingly it wasn't that bad. The weather in March is changing. So we have windy, sunny and rainny weather. We were there around 2 hours and was fabulous. Souvenirs bought in the shop placed in front of Farol. Really nice design there.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 27, 2024
- snoozermooseBoston, Massachusetts193 contributionsCool stop but not worth going out of the wayOur guide brought us here during a day trip to Sintra. It was a further drive than we thought, and there wasn't much to see here, just a nice cliffside view and a placard. Even during the off season, it was quite crowded. While it was cool to be at the westernmost point in Europe, this was not a must-see for us if you have only limited time near Sintra.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten July 10, 2024

This review only applies to the cafe at Cabo da Roca, and not the cliffside itself, which is in fact beautiful and well worth a visit. If you arrive at Cabo da Roca and need a WC, don't pay for the one in the tourism office and instead go to the nearby cafe, which will give you a WC ticket with the purchase of any food, even a croissant. Of course, a vegan will have a hard time here, but they do have a vegan burger. It is not on their main menu, so you have to ask about the vegan burger specifically. I thought I ordered a veggie burger but the server brought me a hamburger and I had to send it back. They accept payment by card.

It is really breathtaking! Absolutely amazing spot to visit. Stunning views of the Atlantic ocean from magnificent cliffs. It is located about 45 minutes by bus 403 from the Sintra train station and the ticket cost for one way is 4,35 €. It is very windy so it could be a little bit cold.

It’s the most westernmost point of the continent that was formerly considered to be the end of the known world.
The scenery it’s absolutely stunning and picturesque
The raging Atlantic Ocean waves pound the base of the massive jagged cliffs while challenging hiking trails follow the coastal.
It’s a place which gave you a special feeling. It’s a must see !!!

I highly recommend going there in the early hours of the morning (9.30 at the latest) to be able to enjoy the spectacle that nature offers in this place.
There are several car parks so there is always room.
The spectacular view repays every kilometer traveled to get there.

The only reason to come here is to say, “We were at the most western part of continental Europe.” There are no beaches here, only cliffs, rocks and a lighthouse built in the late 18th century. There are also a few monuments written in Portuguese.
The Tourist Office will have bathrooms, with a fee about a half a Euro to enter. There is another building that serves as a café. Prices seem reasonable and there are views that stretch out to the Sintra Mountain Range.
The day we arrived it was rainy, hazy and cold. Our tour guide was more than willing to stay in the car. Most tour companies only stop for about 20 minutes or so.
The cliffs are impressive. However, our traveling to the Algarve we saw even more impressive cliffs over the Atlantic Ocean. We particularly liked the south-western point of Portugal, Saint Vincent and its lighthouse.
In reality, unless you knew someplace was the “most western point,” you would never know. The phrase of the famous Portuguese writer, Luis de Camoes, once said, “Where the land ends and the sea begins,” still holds true.

Remarkable views of the coastline though it is quite windy, as one could expect, so bring a light jacket even if it is in the 70s or low 80s F. No free restrooms on site, only in the coffee shop or tourist info center where both charge a nominal fee. Bring coins for this. Unless you plan to eat/drink something, max you need is one hour (realistically thirty minutes).

The westernmost peninsula of continental Europe. A must-see when visiting Lisbon and its surroundings. A wonderful place, undoubtedly worth visiting, beautiful views, an old lighthouse. Amazing colors of the sea, steep cliffs, hidden beaches. Great coast and the vastness of the ocean. There is a café with a wine and souvenir shop on site, and the information point where there is a paid toilet.

Cool spot due to physical geography but nothing else (certainly not the human history). But several aspects of it feel like a tourist trap (paid toilets, an "information guide" who pushes visitors to buy a 11 euro certificate stating they had been to the western most point in continental europe). The best parts are the coastal bluff trails which are rightly marked as unstable and are steep and short access paths to rocky beaches below and across drainages to adjoining cliffsides. Only try these if you are fit enough and with appropriate footwear.
And make SURE to BRING CASH to pay the 6 euro or so fee for the public bus back towards Cascais or Sintra if you're not using private transport.

This place is lovely! It really feels like we are no longer in Portugal but in an unspoiled place. Breathtaking views and the cobalt blue sea in the distance. it is a time to sit back and appreciate the westernmost point of the European continent.
When I went it was very windy so I recommend taking something with you because it's really windy.

On our trip to Sintra by car, we came to visit Cabo da Roca which has an old lighthouse overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Surrounded by the beautiful yet invasive ice plant on which flowers were blooming, the colors of the ocean coupled with the plants were really beautiful. Not overly crowded and there were several paths to walk on, so you didn't bump into other people.
We did not eat here. Worth a visit on a nice sunny day as it does get windy by the ocean.
