The museum is downstairs from the large Cathedral. You’ll find the stairs near the entrance to the Cathedral. Note that the Cathedral is the round shaped building on the opposite side of the Sanctuary as the magnificent Basilica. The museum is larger than it looks from the outside. I was surprised how large it was. Items worth noting is the original crown of the statue of Holy Mary in the Apparition chapel. That crown is used on special Feast and Holy Days, otherwise a replica is used. If you look closely at the crown, you’ll find a bullet on the top, under the aqua colored ball. This was the bullet that shot John Paul 2. He was shot on the 13th, the anniversary of one of the apparitions. When he travelled to Turkey to forgive his shooter he told him, you are a great shot, but you picked the wrong day. The other item which is rather curious since it is well protected is a piece of wood. Back in 1922, someone tried to blow up the apparition chapel. The door and roof were damaged but not the rest. The sliver of wood is from the original door. There is quite a bit more to see as well.

Located just below the main entrance of the Basilica of the Holy Trinity, the Museum is in the complex housing the Chapels of the Holy Eucharist and Confessionals. Of course, it houses many historical pieces on Fatima and it is well worth the visit, and it's free.

Small but interesting museum run the Catholic Church in Fatima. It contains many precious objects given in Thanksgiving to Our Lady for Fatima for prayers answered, as well as gifts given by popes and other famous people. The most interesting item was the official gold crown of Our Lady of Fatima, studded with jewels and containing the bullet that struck Pope John Paul II during his assassination attempt in 1981. Do not miss, however, also the two ‘Golden Roses’. These are gilded rose stem sculptures that are given by popes as special signs of appreciation and devotion, and Fatima was given TWO roses by two different popes! A very unusual honour. The introductory movie at the beginning of the tour on the history of the apparitions in Fatima is also very well done, and the polyglot nuns looking after the place do a very good job in accommodating visitors and giving extra information when needed.

This place is so over commercialized and to me felt like it has completely lost the sanctity and religious value. I thought there would be more historical value and information presented. Instead thousands of religious idols for sell and a large modern church and basílica. We wish had skipped this completely.

Located in the lower level of the Holy Trinity Basilica, the very large auditorium-like building on one end of the plaza in Fatima, this little musuem is worth a visit since it features exhibits related to the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in 1917. Noteworthy are the umbrellas - they related to the Miracle of the Sun, the sign given by the Virgin Mary on Octobetr 13, 1917 - 70,000 people had showed up in Fatima expecting a sign that she was really appearing to the three shepherd children = Saints Francisco and Jacinta Marto and their cousin Lucia. The day was the the last of a series of miserably rainy, wet and muddy days, thus the umbrellas. The Sun came out and newspaper reports say that the people wore it danced in the sky, appeared to start falling, retreated, but left the ground and everyone dry.

This is a place that is easy to miss because there are no signs. In front of the Basilica of the Holy Trinity, down a flight of steps, there is a museum for the Shrine of Fatima. The museum is fairly large and contains a number of exhibits relating to the events of Fatima and the subsequent history of the place. There are the umbrellas that the people carried on the famous day, there are cameras that people used to capture the event, and there are plans for the building of the basilica. This museum is free, and often has rotating exhibits that highlight certain aspects of the event. Do not overlook this marvelous museum located under the plaza of Fatima near the Holy Trinity church.
