About
Portuguese Pastry Workshop in Lisbon - We teach the art of portuguese conventual pastry "OVOS MOLES", a tradition with 500 years old. This pastry is very rich, there are dozens of recipes from north to south of Portugal like the pastel de nata (custard tart), ovos moles de aveiro and pudim abade de priscos. The participants choose 2/3 recipes they want to learn from a selection list. The Workshop is lead by a Pastry Chef and takes place in our shop located in chiado. The pastries prepared are tasted with porto wine, coffee or tea.

Neighbourhood: Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.

Cooking classes are so much fun, and it was especially nice to learn how to make pastel de nata. There were six of us in the class, so it was the perfect size. Each of us got to do a part of the process. It felt casual and relaxed, and the best part was eating the pastel de nata at the end.

My husband and I spent a wonderful evening with Maria and Ana-Sofia at this quaint little pastry shop. We learned step by step how to make traditional Portuguese pastries including pastéis de nata. We also received take home copies of the recipes for future use. We laughed, we learned and we indulged afterwards. What stands out is how warm they were throughout and how much fun we had. We sat together after banking and spoke of the things we love and places we've seen. The pasteis were up there with the best we sampled in Portugal. From start to finish, the workshop was about two hours. We loved every minute. If you have time to spare in the city, this is a must do. And, as a bonus, you get to take some of the left overs home. Amazing people. Amazing workshop.

We stopped here for a quick coffee whilst strolling around.

Here we got to try a couple of different rich cakes with our coffee. The cafe has a selection of Portuguese cakes biscuits and they sell ice cream.

Nice and cosy cafe :-)

I am crazy about Portuguese traditional desserts made with eggs and I think this place is the closest to heaven. The owners are very nice, make you feel at home and provide workshops to teach you their secrets. If you share my love for this kind of dessert, this is the place to visit.

This was a nice experience, especially when your learning not only about the actual baking, but from the different cultures and experience of those partaking in the class. For example, we took the class with a Brazilian couple who are not able to use white sugar as they only have access to yellow sugar. The class itself was led by an actual pastry chef who showed us her very own recipes and techniques. This isn’t exactly a do it yourself baking class - you do not actually bake anything as the classeoom is too small to accommodate too many bakers. But what you do learn is how to make authentic Portuguese pastries, and tips that make it easier for you to try it at home in your own home and country.

Really fun class, the staff was really nice and the chef was great. We made some delicious pastries and he topped it off with playing some local music while we ate
