In 1937 it was named "Barrete Verde" but soon iit was changed to the final name that acquired national and international fame: ADEGA MACHADO. Today one may find a Fado House that renders homage to its history, to the founders and to all those who have added their personal and professional experiences to the memories of ADEGA MACHADO. In the Fado, Amalia Rodrigues proved her affection to this House with two yearly galas; the charismatics Alfredo Marceneiro and Fernando Mauricio came back many times. There are many to be named, but amongst those the interpreters Manuel Fernandes, Francisco Carvalhinho, Raul Nery, Adelino Santos, Beatriz da Conceicao, Maria Amelia Proenca, Maria da Fe and Mariza. The space was totally refurbished based on a new project, with a total preservation of the famous tiled facade and in the interior an area was created to display the large collection of historical images: paintings, drawings and photographs, property of the Machado Family. There is now an additional area, the Wine Cellar that serves traditional tidbits together with a large choice of Portuguese wines.

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel. It was absolutely fabulous, I may not have known what they were singing about but you feel every emotion just listening. The food was great too but the atomostphere was amazing can't recommend this experience enough.

Dear Client, Each place as its own atmosphere. This one, as an historical House of Fado, is very special, lively atmosphere but with some rules concerning its long existence (80 years) and Traditiion. Because so, it has a kind of solemnity which has to be...More

We had a lovely dinner and enjoyed Fado there on our last night in Lisbon. The restaurant was upscale and very pretty, and there were wonderful photographs on the ways, depicting famous Fado artists. At the end of our evening they called a taxi for...More

A very formal restaurant with fado. It just doesn't work. The service is good, apart from the part where they take your bottle away after pouring and you don't see it anymore... Idiotic. They want to be upscale, but the kitchen can not keep up....More

Dear Madam / Sir, It seems that, despite your remarks, you had a good as you admit appreciations about some of the courses and quality of fado music. Please note that it is allowed to eat while fado is singed, and you can even talk...More

The singers got their coats on and immediately left after their sets and the head waiter led the clapping in a forced way. Time is money. This place would be ok if they dropped trying to do fine dining and let the music speak for...More

Dear Customer, As a matter of fact, Fado music speaks for itself. Despite the waiters claps, that doesn´t force at all anyone to clap. In a closer observation, clapping, and even the intensity of it, as a sign of admiration, comes from the will and...More
