Today we attended a Christmas concert by a youth choir. Free entrance; stupend venue; wonderful musical arrangements and extraordinary repertoire. The kids in the choir are unpresountious and simply wonderful. Excellent director. Do not miss, after the concert there is plenty to do in the...More

Teatro Sao Carlos, beautiful and historical building, is one of the best European Opera Houses, with rich and different programme, from classical works to the modern ones. Mozart, Donizetti Verdi, Wagner, Puccini, but also Stravinsky, Britten and many others can be seen there.. The productions...More

I visited the Teatro Nacional de Sao Carlos while attending a performance of Stravinsky’s opera Oedipus Rex in November 2016. The performance was quite good, and ticket prices were very reasonable compared to other opera houses around the world (€40 for a good seat). Overall...More

One of the most beautiful opera houses in Europe. It is small but the inside walls and spaces are well-decorated and it seems you are living in the beginning of the XX century. The Theater also has a nice coffee/restaurant with tables outside and in...More

You can pass by not remarking the Opera House. From outside it is very simple, inside is beautiful. They built it after the Italian Opera Houses. This is a very old house one of the first in Europe. It was opened in 1793.The king's loge...More

What a surprise this was ! The theatre is a gem, excellent acoustics and the looks of a real European opera hall. We attended Rossini La Cenerentola a relatively less known opera. It was a real delight. Highly professional.

Like many (probably all), opera houses, there are good performances (a brilliant Bohème), bad performances (a tragic Tosca), and all shades in between - we've been here many times, and it all depends on what you see, when, performed by whom, and whether they're having...More

We were fortunate to attend a performance at Teatro Sao Carlos. We saw los Diamantes De La Corona. The opera house is a beautiful auditorium which reminded us of La Scala. Ornate in white and gold, it appeared to have been recently painted. The opera...More
