The basilica was close to our hotel and we didn’t visit it on previous journeys to Lisbon. We were pleasantly surprised by its beautiful giant dome and twin bell towers. But, the best part was climbing the stairs to enjoy the spectacular view from its roof. It is worth the effort and the entrance fee.

My wife and I visited the basilica on a weekday in early April. The basilica is nice on the inside but the real attraction is the roof-top views. We paid €3/$3.17 per person to climb the circular stairs to the roof. It was nice to walk around the roof and view the city from above. Our Lisbon guide book (Fodor's... More

Lots of statues, and murals inside. Calm, quiet place to visit and sit for a few minutes in the coolness.

We wanted to see the Basilica, so we took the Tram #25 from Praça do Comércio. This ride alone, is worth the trip. Once you get there, you will not spend a lot of time. You can pay a fee and go onto the terrace. We just went in and admired the beautiful altars inside. After that, you can stroll... More

This church is located opposite a garden which is worth visiting. The church has nice architecture on the outside and is nice on the inside.

Estrela Basilica can be seen from most of the city due to its massive size with its two tall bell towers and large dome. The interior is vast, mostly Baroque, with extensive use of attractive coloured marbles.

This Basilica, last earthly home of the Portuguese Queen Mary I and her Confessor is a remarkable testimony of the late Baroque and Neo-Classical Style located in the quite Lisbon District called Estrela. Went there in the middle of the Month ( March ) by cab/taxi , starting from Cais de Sodré ( Train station ) and paid in the... More

Must visit on a trip to Lisbon, the cathedral is incredibly beautiful, wonder around and then pay a small donation to head up onto the roof for a jaw dropping view of the city. Not scared of heights? Carry on and walk inside the dome, the only place I've come across were you can see such a key historical building... More

The church was beautiful and there is a large and lovely park just opposite it. The towers of the church seem to be visible from all over Lisbon but the area itself (despite having the 28 tram route go through it) feels slightly off the beaten track, which is perfect if you want to get away from the tourist crowds.
