We took the fun ride with the funicular Gloria and really enjoyed the views from this nice and well-kept viewpoint located over the equally nice park. It is a great starting point for walking through the streets of Bairro Alto.

We have been taking the elevador de Santa Justa upwards and then did a little scenic walking tour up to Miradouro Sao Pedro. The Miradouro itself is one of the nicest in Lisbon an beautifully located above the old city with scenic view on the castle and the sea. Below the Miradouro there is a nice terrace park to take... This is a very large viewpoint with a wide angle view of Lisbon - there is a tiled sign which shows you what all the main buildings are. Other reviewers have recommended sunset or sunrise - during the day it is very pretty and quite quiet. Near the Church of Sao Roque which is also worth a visit.

Amazing experience. April, 6PM, on a monday. There was a market, nice music, a lively athmosphere, and a astonishing view over Lisbon. A nice idea to finish the day prior to go for dinner.

Perfect evening destination. Lots of people, relaxed, enjoying the views (though, as always, a few too many bumbling around with those damned selfie-sticks!). There was a market in the plaza when we were there and bought some nice cheese for the weekend.

This is the place for a fabulous view over the city. We were lucky to be here at sunset and watched the city lights cover the city. Than the highlight was the full, pink moon rising over the castle. It was magical!

The views from this point are amazing and it is really worth a visit, especially as the Elevador da Gloria saves you from having to walk up the hillside. We went in the evening, expecting that there might be a bar or cafe where we could have a drink while admiring the view and found that the refreshment kiosk was... More

This is a beautiful spot - one of many miradouros in Lisbon, but in my opinion, one of the nicest. Beautiful tiled houses on the walk up, cute little market for souvenirs and local handicrafts on the terrace, nice quiet park down the steps, perfectly placed benches for soaking it all in.

Staying in Chiado & Carmo

Neighbourhood Profile
Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.
