As always in Lisboa, if something is slightly to the side, amount of visitors is disproportionally low. While mainly people to come to see the church, they miss visit to cloister which includes visiting roof with panoramic view. Cloister if wonderfully decorated with painted tiles, and from the roof opens lovely view towards Pantheon and river.

One of the churches in Alfama and I passed by Igreja da Sao Vicente de Fora; I was walking around Alfama and taking photos, you won't miss this church when you are at Alfama.

It's a beautiful and quiet space inside the church. On a busy summer day, it feels clean and comfortable to say a little prayer for my loved ones.

Free entry and no queues. It's worth popping in for a quick visit if you are in the area - perhaps on the way to somewhere else. It has lovely side chapels and a Madonna dressed up with a black wig. For me the best bit was sitting on the steps outside watching the tour tuk tuk drivers making a... More

Igreja da Sao Vicente de Fora is a historic church in Alfama district that makes for a nice place to visit during trips to Lisbon. Opening hours 9am to 1pm and 2.30-5pm daily (Tuesdays to Saturdays), the church and museum are closed on Mondays. Note: The church itself is free to visit. However, there is an entry fee to access... Dating back to the 12th century, this church and adjoining monastery with cloister is an exceptional example of Mannerist style of architecture. From vaulted archways to majestic blue tiled hallways to an over-the-top sacristy replete with numerous types of marble, this church should be on everyone's 'must-see' list. It is located in the center of the Alfama neighborhood close to... More

This beautiful church is unusual in that the Sanctuary is separated from the nave with a low wooden barrier which prevents access to the sanctuary but you can still view the beautiful altar

Lots of history here. The Church closes at 5PM. The museum closes at 6PM. Both are well worth visiting, specially if you are Catholic. Tram 28E takes you there and the stop is right in front.

Staying in Graca & Sao Vicente

Neighbourhood Profile
Graca & Sao Vicente
You can be thankful that most common travel guides don't mention Graça and São Vicente that often. Part of Lisbon's historic center and "Old Town", they feel like independent villages in the capital's center, and more untouched than Alfama. Amazing views, restaurants and parks, as well as important monuments like the S. Vicente Church and the National Pantheon, make this a spectacular option for those looking for a more tranquil walk-around in the center of Lisbon. Graça has been the choice of many younger people over the past years, both nationals and expats, given the cozy feeling of the neighborhood and its hidden secrets.
