Situated in Belem it's a short tram ride (15) or a long walk and is quite stunning. Brilliant place for photos and a great landmark on the river bank. The figures are all stone carvings and the detail is stunning, you can I believe climb the monument but I chose not to. I was told though that the views from... More

Very cool statue but not much to it. Wouldn't make a trip just to see it but if you've got time after the monastery, head over. You cross the main road underneath via a tunnel.

You can see Belem Tower from here but you can't walk to it from here unless you walk along the road. Colourful mural on wall worth a look and view towards bridge excellent. To sit and watch ships going past the river is good

This is close to Belem Castle so on the tourist route. Just been cleaned so looking very bright. Can get a lift to the top for €4.

The whole area of Belem is a must see while in Lisbon. Great place to stroll and to stop by the cafe selling the famous Belem Pastry.

Very impressive structure, and while modern blends into the skyline and other monuments nearby. The area has options of restaurants of many types, from cheap and fast, to more sophisticated options.

We visited on a weekday morning. Beautiful day, crisp, sunny, blue skies. This sculpture looked magnificent and is well worth a visit. You can walk along the waterfront and get some terrific views over the river .

The stone carved figures on either side of the prow of a ship shaped monument are stunning. Wonderful statues and huge. The views of the city and the waterfront from the top of the monument are stunning

Staying in Belem

Neighbourhood Profile
Belem
Belém is the "capital of the Portuguese Discoveries" and a photographer's paradise. You can spend an entire day exploring this neighborhood: monuments (Jerónimos Monastery, Belém Tower, Monument to the Discoveries), museums (Coach Museum, Centro Cultural de Belém) and breathtaking views of the Tagus river will make your visit worth your time. Belém also offers a variety of restaurants and cafes, namely the famous - and delicious - "Pastéis de Belém" (typical Portuguese custard tarts; make sure you buy an extra box of those!). Easily accessible from Lisbon's historic center, Belém is a must-do, especially if you're spending more than one day visiting the Portuguese capital.
