Beautiful venue!

Our choral group enjoyed singing in the Hall of Mirrors in Palacio Foz. We had good acoustics, a very nice piano, and attentive audience the afternoon of the performance.

This beautiful pink building in Restaudouro square, houses a museum, tourist information bureau and police headquarters. It can be easily reached by metro, trams and buses. Diagonally opposite is the Hard Rock Cafe.

It doesn't necessarily look great from outside but the interior is sumptuous. We went there for a concert not knowing how beautiful the rooms and staircase were. Keep an eye out for the concerts held here - a number have free entry. There is also an exhibition of cinematograph equipment.

... probably the most beautiful staircase in Europe, in a non royal palace. Inspired by the french architecture of the 1700´s, this palace has the most wonderful ball rooms and music rooms in Lisbon. Unfortunately it can only be visited in organized groups with previous reservation. During the year there are a few concerts and recitals open to the public,... More

When we wanted to visit, it was told in the Tourist Office, that there is no way to get in. We have seen a small notice on gthe wall, that there will be a concert. Forget the concert, it was very poor, the students of a privat music school were playing. But the building. It was built in 1755-1777 ,... More

The Palacio Foz is the home of the Visitors Center in Rossio as well as a branch of the police department. I visited the Information center on a couple of occasions, where the staff was extremely helpful. Happily I can say that I did not have to visit the police station... The exterior is a lovely pink...

We saw a piano/opera recital in the Palacio Foz and it was amazing! The building itself rivals Versailles for its beauty. I was immediately transcended. The recital was free and a part of a series that they do there. So lovely and very conveniently located!

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
