Very relaxing and pretty to wander around. Don't miss the river views and history. It's ornate and well maintained. Many famous Lisbon people are buried here.

This is not the typical tourist site but it is a good glimpse into the culture of Portugal. This is one of the most beautiful and interesting cemetery I've visited. There's even streets in this cemetery. Totally amazing. Definitely a must visit.

A peaceful place to wander on a sunny day. Avenues of above-ground crypts are laid out like a small suburb, with surprising things to see around many corners. Look for the monument to Lisbon's firefighters, and the tomb lovingly shaped like a carpenter's workbench complete with carved stone tools. The trip out on Tram 28 is an essential Lisbon experience... More

We would not normally get the idea to come to see a cemetery had it not been recommended in a guide book. We took a taxi to get there. Some of the tombs look more like little chapels and are true pieces of art. Some are very old. As you walk slowly down, breathing in the melancholic atmosphere, you will... More

One of the most beautiful cemetery parks you may find. Huge trees, the cemetery organised by roads for all the new and old, big and small mausoleums, some built for famous personalities, some owned by rich families. You could spend hours walking around and guessing about the history behind each tomb or monument. Lies at one end of the famous... More

I would highly recommend a visit to Cemiterio dos Prazeres. It sounds like a morbid thing to do but the setting is very serene. This cemetery dates back to the late 1700's and all of the vaults are above ground. Some of them have glass doors where you can view inside. The vaults are beautiful, weathered pieces of art. At... The cemetery is for me one of the highlights of Lisbon. You can get there by taking tram 28. At the final stop you see the entrance of the cemetery. We walked along the small houses and enjoyed the serene atmosphere.

Interesting place to wander around looking at the different sculptures and gravestone iconography. Look for the little plaques on the ground that indicate noteworthy plots. There is a small "waiting room" (waiting for what, I don't know) just to the left as you enter the gates. There were a few maps of the cemetery layout, with some highlights indicated in... More
