Neighbourhood: Chiado & Carmo
The traditionally trendy "Chiado" (literally, "squeak", the nickname of a 16th century poet) offers plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can stop for a cafe or cocktail, after exploring its streets, shops, art galleries, theaters, museums and viewpoints. It's also the home to the statue of the famous statue of portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa, having is usual espresso at "A Brasileira" as he used to. You can also enjoy breathtaking views of Lisbon from the Elevador de Santa Justa or the Carmo Convent, for example. A commercial neighborhood at its core, especially for its Garrett and Carmo streets, Chiado is to this day a mandatory visit in Lisbon.

You are likely to come here to take a train to Sintra. Very busy as it is the station for many suburban locations. A big coffee store, some souvenirs, and a big open square in front. Lovely entrance.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 20, 2023

The architecture is lovely and inspired by classical 16th-Portugese Manueline architecture. Its a small and easy to navigate station with the ticket office and platforms located up the escalators. We didnt have delays puchasing tickets but can be busy for the early morning rush to Sintra. We used this station to reach Sintra and the process was easy.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten February 6, 2024

Beautiful architectural design and there are both ticket machines and a ticket booth for the purchase of tickets. It was very busy but we managed to navigate our way through the system and got our train on time. Toilets for a few cents, a few cafes, this place is part of a larger rail network.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten March 23, 2024

During our time in Lisbon, my wife and I decided to take a walk to explore this station which was across from our hotel. Behind the gorgeous and well maintained exterior that dates back to 1890, is a modernized train station that is spotlessly clean and has a variety of stores, cafes, great views of Rossio Square as well as a 21st Century railway station. An ornate arch with metal trim leads to the lower level and a set of escalators. One of the free options at the station are the views of Rossio Square as well as the impressive fortified wall of São Jorge Castle.

Not covered as I thought it would be but still a lovely station. We walked this on our stroll and then left for Sintra from here...with hundreds of other people. Many people that work in Lisbon take this train to their homes along the route.

Set in the very center of Lisbon, between the Restaudores and Rossio squares, you simply cannot pass this beautiful edifice without stopping. Moreover, I suggest entering it to see the interiors.
A flamboyant Manueline style building with terrific architecture. Most beautiful feature are two horseshoe shape entrances.
You can catch trains from here for Sintra, Cascais and other towns.

One of the most beautiful and main stations in Lisbon. You can buy cheap tickets to go to Sintra from Lisbon. It only takes around 40 minutes. A round trip ticket will cost you only 4.5 Euros.

One rushes through this station so fast that one does not have the chance to notice that it is grand and attractive. Classic old school train station. And there are basic services here like food, coffee, and journals. This is where you get the train to Sintra.

A terrible experience with a teller left our family feeling upset and angry. Portugal - and its people - have been amazing so far. A man asked my husband for his passport, rejected his ID and insisted he walk back to our hotel and get his documents. This was just to board a quick train to Sintra. We did not see anyone else being asked for their IDs. Upsetting but not representative of the people as a whole.

Very pretty station and efficient ticket machines. Train to Sintra pretty good but passes through some bad areas. On returning to Rossio at 9 o'clock it didn't feel very safe and there were a few bad behaved people who got on and off. Usual thug stuff like loud music, cursing at each other etc. Luckily a guard walked thru and removed one. I would avoid taking this train during night time if you can as its not as nice as the Lisbon metro.

This is a very busy but welcoming and highly efficient train station. It has an impressive ornate facade. The trains run on time and it is the link to Sintra (amongst other places). Since it is such a busy hub it is best to get there early. It is situated to the side of the famous Rossio Square.

Por favor, alguém sabe dizer se a Estação Ferroviaria do Rossio tem guarda-volumes (lockers) para deixar a bagagem? Ou se tem algum local próximo com lockers?
Written September 10, 2023
Are there a lot of luggage lockers to fit your bags (carry on size)? Flying into Lisbon then taking a tuktuk tour before taking to train to Portimao so figuring out logistics! And do you pay with change or a card for the lockers?

Qual o melhor comboio/ empresa, para fazer o trajeto Lisboa - Porto?
Written June 25, 2019
