This area was a former dumpster and was totally renovated for the World Expo back in 1998. They’ve made beautiful gardens and modern buildings that combine with the beautiful Tagus River. The Vulcan fountains are fantastic and you cannot miss it for a couple of photos. Also there’s a cable car, a ride that kids will loved it for sure.... More

This is one of the only really designed neighborhoods in Lisbon-- tree-lined streets, parks, plenty of parking, and an astonishing array of ambitious new architecture. My favorite is Oriente station, designed by Santiago Calatrava, but the twin towers named after Vasco de Gama's boats are a second favorite. It is actually a lot of fun just looking around at all... We wanted to see the area, because it is a part of Lisbon. The teleferico was great to do! You can really see the futuristic buildings very good. The Shopping center Vasco da Gama is also great. But there where not many people in teh whole park.

This is a perfect example of how a former expo site can be turned into a new community with great facilities for all Lisboetans. The cable car along the River Tejo and the Aquarium are just 2 great features.

I stayed in the area therefore we made short visit in the park. I was really impressed about the modern architecture, buildings and everythings that was build there. Even you do not like the modern art worth it to walk in the area, drink and expresso on the teracces and even have a meal on the restaurants in the areas

Staying in Parque das Nacoes

Neighbourhood Profile
Parque das Nacoes
This neighborhood was built up at the end of the 1990s mostly because of the Expo '98. The pavilions and structures that once were the home of all the Expo's attractions and exhibits are still culturally and artistically significant. In Parque das Nações you'll explore conference and concert pavilions, a shopping center, trendy restaurants and an enjoyable cable car ride you can't miss out on. On top of this, the amazing Lisbon Oceanarium (one of the most spectacular things you'll ever see in the city) will take your breath away: its respect and will to preserve natural wildlife is uncanny. Easily accessible by metro, bus or taxi from the city center, Parque das Nações is highly recommended for anyone who'll spend more than 3 days in the Portuguese capital.
