Even following online booking and security procedures..our emails were not received so it was not easy to gain access. A dwindling community forced out by old age and spiraling property prices meant that most shabbat worshipers were tourists.
We contacted the synagogue by email months before to request a visit. Prompt response and addressed the dates that we were available. Visit confirmed! Send a reminder out two weeks before. Bring 20 euro at least for a donation. Lovely sanctuary and a short talk...More

Yes. You have to send a email to Register with a passport and answer a questionnaire. Once you pass security by them , you will again be asked the purpose of your visit at the outside of the synagogue. Once Inside you will be welcomed by Fleischmann who is the major dome from Coney Island. You may also ask if he can help you procure a Portuguese Haggadah, al printed in Brazil( please note that there will be a charge for the book and a hopeful contribution for visiting)Don’t forget to make a reservation at Lisboa A Noite for dinner. Google Portuguese main synagogue to get the email address as this response will not accept the email address. Thank you.
