Came across this quiet gem by accident - beautiful wooden floors, many azulejos, amazing side chapel with intricate inlaid marble. The church and chapel are free. Well worth a look.

The outside of this convent/chapel would be easy to walk right past. It is very plain and simple from the outside. The interior walls are lined with beautiful blue tiles very tpical in many parts of Portugal. Note the inlaid marble that makes up the...More

Hidden gem, across from Miradouro S.P. de Alcantara. Easy access from Pl.dos Restauradores (elevator Gloria). Beautiful, kind of cute convent, interesting art on the walls, ceramics, design executed in very good taste.Photo-OK, though no flash. Guided tours possible -€2.50 per person.

Visiting the Miradouro Sao Pedro de Alcantara I almost missed the entrance to the convento, located in a lateral sreet. It was built to conmemorate the independence of Portugal from Spain. Before entering the main church, there is a small chapel located on the left....More
