Originally built in the early 13th century, rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake and restored in the 19th century, it has beautiful tiled exterior walls that are typically found on buildings in Lisbon. The doors were open when we were walking by so went in to...More

Architecturally the facade of this church is somewhat unique as it was built to blend in and hence the street side is all tile.

I found it interesting that the front of the church has a curtain, instead of a regular front door. We walked by several times not realizing it was a church-because of the curtain and the bums sitting on the front steps begging. When one steps...More

Sao Nicolau is spacious and tastefully decorated without being over the top. During our afternoon visit the sun's rays were streaming through the upper windows.

The church is dated from the early thirteen century. It was rebuilt several times in its history, especially after the earthquake. Recently, it was completely restored and today it is beautiful and calm place well worth the visit.

Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site,
Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply
"Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake

earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its
name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in
Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the
