A slightly sloping rectangular square whose space is mostly occupied by a pedestrianized and tree-lined central ellipse (and paved with the usual light and dark inlays to form various designs) where the beautiful monument dedicated to Luís de Camões. Typical Lisbon trams pass almost continuously in the streets around the ellipse. Adjacent to the heart of Chiado, although at the same time it acts as the border between Chiado, Bairro Alto and the Santa Caterina district, you will always find it crowded with people, like the whole area around it. The axis that goes from this square to Largo Chiado is in my opinion one of the most pleasant areas of Lisbon.

Nice place to walk around and explore the Chiado neighborhood. Exudes history! It has a huge 4 meter bronze statue in the center, in honor of the poet. It is surrounded by buildings belonging to the Ministry of Economy and the Brazilian Consulate General.

This plaza is centrally located in Chiado, one could say it is the heart of Chiado as everyone roaming the area will pass by here. A cozy and small plaza, surrounded by hotels, restaurants and shops at a very busy intersection. Good for orientation purposes in order not to get lost on Chiado.

Wonderful. I have certainly seen more beautiful squares but this one has something, a magic... that made me fall in love. The climate you breathe is relaxing. Maybe it's a bit of saudade?
In the center of the square there is a large statue of the Portuguese poet Luìs de Camoes.

We got real lucky and picked a charming square to get our flat. The famous Tram 28 has a convenient stop here for trip up to St. George Castle and it’s in walking distance to Rossio train station as well as Rua Agusta pedestrian walk. Most important, a very cool cafe was in our corner of the cafe where we hung for our 4 nights for happy hour enjoying our Aperol Speritz.

The center of the Barrio Alto and Chiado neighborhoods, a big square with some traffic all around it, as well as the Tram 28 route. Good place to observe and plan out your walks. Cafes around. Metro right here.

A very busy square where Chiado and Barrio Alto come together. The tram runs through here and the Metro is close by. It is open and there is perspective on the statue in the center as well as the impressive churches and hotels around. One of the city centers.

A busy and popular public square named after the great Portuguese poet Luís de Camões, where there's also a monument in his honour. Like many European public squares, this also have cafes and restaurants to sit and watch the world go by. Actually, the bakery Manteigaria is on this square and sells fantastic Pastel de Nata. Other than the monument and eateries, there's not much else on the square]. Worth visiting if you have time, but don't go out of the way.

Praça Luís de Camões, interchangeably referred to as Largo do Camoes, the both words translated as "square", the location may not strike you by its sheer scale, for it lacks the grandeur and historical significance of both Rossio and Praça do Comércio, but its more intimate and, shall we say cozy, design is more conducive to a leisurely and more relaxed hanging-out, that being the reason the square is always bustling with life, comingling of residents and visitors alike, and a place of eternal rendez-vous for all ages.
By now, you will probably know that the square is named after one of the most important founders of Portuguese poetic and literary language, Luís de Camões (1524-1580), usually referred to as "Portuguese Shakespeare".
Architecturally, the square is surrounded by fine "Pombaline" (the style that domineered post-1775 earthquake Lisbon urban reconstruction) buildings and impressive mosaic pavement, the famous "Calçada Portuguesa", however, honestly, both the houses and the pavement are omnipresent almost anywhere in Chiado and Baixa central districts of Lisbon.
The location is right in the middle of Chiado district with Rua do Alecrim leading down south to the TimeOut Market, and the "Pink Street", with Rua da Misericórdia leading up north towards Largo Trindade Coelho (with its Church and Museum de São Roque) and Calçada do Duque, with Bairro Alto "party-non-stop" neighborhood to the west and Largo do Chiado (Cafe A Brasileira with the statue of Fernando Pessoa) and Rua Garrett, with the area's both of Lisbon only 2 Michelin stars restaurants, to the east.
Certainly there are tons of places to eat and drink, with two best Pasteis de Nata (freshly baked custard pies) joints in town, Manteigaria and a small Pastelaria Batalha, across the square of each other.
Quiosque Lisboa, a round-shaped kiosk, located on the square itself offers hot beverages, wine, snacks and light meals, with sitting-down area complete with chairs, tables, and umbrellas against the elements.

Ho soggiornato al Bairro Alto non lontano da Piazza Camoes. A me il quartiere è piaciuto. Attenzione ai borseggiatori ma questo è un problema di tutta Lisbona

Does anybody know, why there was a necktie on the statue of Francisco de Sá de Meneses when we saw it in April?
