t is also one of those small churches inside the town. This time I was not able get in because I was in hurry but I am sure it will be beautiful, simple and peaceful inside.

The exterior is undistinguished. Inside, the altar is pretty ornate, but the rest is relatively simple and plain.

This is one of the major churches in the town and while the exterior is nothing special when you get inside the tiled decoration for the walls is simply a wonderful expression of the beauty of Portugal.

It looks a little stark on the outside, but inside it is decorated and typically Portuguese. Not always open. Check for times. It's on a pretty square with lots of people around.

This is one of the major churches in town and one where you should go inside to see the decorations and history. It is toward the center and easy to get to.

The second-biggest church in town has a good plaque outside that explains its history in brief. Sadly it was not open so we were not able to assess the interior.

There are lots of reviews on here about this church now being a bookstore. It is not, that is Igreja de Sao Tiago. Neither is it the lovely blue tiled walls of Igreja de Santa Maria which people have pictured. This is a nice church, originally 13c but destroyed in the 1755 earthquake and rebuilt. Not especially interesting from an architectural viewpoint but with a nice altar.

This church is in the central part of town. It looks quite old and is really beautiful. It’s great that these old buildings remain standing. Especially in such a beautiful old towns like this.

The Church of São Pedro is a medieval church, who was founded in the 17th-19th centuries and being rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake.
From the original building, only traces of the old Gothic portico are preserved on its facade. After the 1755 earthquake, only the gilded altar (1690-1705) and the tower with spiral stairs were saved. Inside, a single nave houses a valuable Baroque altarpiece of Saint Peter to receive the keys to the sky of Christ, which dates from the 17th and early 18th centuries, located on the wall on the side of the Epistle.

Do visit this beautiful small church in a large square in Óbidos. The walls and columns are covered with beautiful blue print tiles. The ceiling has decorative painting and the altar is gold gilded. One would not expect so much beauty in a small church in a quaint old town.
