A centre of city life, one inevitably comes here if in Setúbal. My husband was baptised in the church here. We used to come with my daughter, while she was still small, to feed the doves, to run around, to drink coffee with my husband. It’s a place with good vibe.

This review is meant to be an over view of the City of Setubal as seen through the eyes of an Ex Pat from Wales who has lived and worked in Setubal for eighteen years plus and why I would respectfully suggest people should visit Setubal for hoilday , weekends or annual holiday , Setubal is located 45 Kms south of Lisbon and has a population of 120,000 . It is what I call "real" Portugal it is a working town and the population is 99.5% Portuguese but very well educated and the English language is taught from an early age.
So why do I suggest you visit , it is a choice you have to make do you want a holiday fully relaxed and well provided for in the local customs or stressful overcrowded City which has been adapted for tourists ( English breakfast all day , cheap tourist gifts , the culture sleep all day and drink all night ) . If you want the later then Setubal is not for you . In Setubal no it is not boring or unattractive , it has it own fishing harbor ( Small fishing boats) , two golf courses , five local beaches , across the estuary Troia with silver sand beaches , accessed by ferry from Setubal every hour , accommodation raging from ,hostels ( Pensio ) B&B hotels to 5 start hotels , excellent local restaurants mainly owned and run by families serving Portuguese traditional meals of 5 start quality , the old town has plenty to search out and visit the history of Setubal , churches, chapels , historical large houses , etc ., Please do not think Setubal is prehistoric it is not the local "camara" council are very forward thinking and have developed a 21st century "forum" on the outskirts of the town containing all shops of trade marked products and entertainment area . Sports we are the home of the football club Vitoria Club of Setubal which plays in the premier league , rugby is starting to become a growing sport , yes you can also enjoy a late night out , as Setubal does have a number of well furnished bars and selective disco,s . However above all what does it mean to a holiday maker coming to Setubal , I can assure you a very safe and relaxed holiday with I am sure something to please all tastes but above all at a total cost much less than certain parts of Portugal that have been designed for a "tourist" holiday , and access as I have said is only a maximum of one hour from Lisbon , so you can always take a day out to visit Lisbon , you do not need a car as it very easy to travel by train to Lisbon and then with no stress of driving in Lisbon or parking issues.
May I wish you all a very happy and joyful visit to Setubal

We had a lunch stop in town and headed to the water.
We saw the green car ferry boats.
There was a green open space, a children’s play area and an interesting cafe in a converted bus which we did not see until after we had eaten unfortunately.
A nice spot to stay and watch the world go by for a while, especially on a sunny Autumn day.

This is the absolute center of town, a big open square where special events happen. We sat in a cafe and enjoyed the atmosphere on a sunny afternoon. Lots of people around doing the same thing.

Beautiful buildings, cafes, flowers, artwork, tiles and street décor. Brilliant way to spend a few hours. We were only passing through and wished we could have stayed longer.

A very nice little square with a few cafes around, just perfect for a cup of coffee. Many narrow small streets around that gives a nice feel of the town.

Very cozy square, with few cafes. Ideal place for coffee break in the middle of the day at any season. When you drink coffee, taste dessert "Paster de Nata", it is delicious in Setubal. Love to have a coffee break in this place.

Right in the center of the city of Setubal I find a beautiful public square, Praca de Bocage.
I find there good restaurants and bars, nice shops and (mainly) verry interesting old buildings, with beatiful architectures.
