The Moorish Castle is a military fortification that bears witness to the Islamic presence in the region, and was probably constructed between the eighth and ninth centuries and later expanded after the Reconquista. Overlooking the town of Sintra, it served as a watchtower, guaranteeing the protection of Lisbon and its surroundings.

Set high on a hill top the castle enjoys staggering views of the surrounding area. Give yourself plenty of time when you visit here because you won't want to miss any of it.

The remains of this castle are well maintained. The scenery is wonderful, and it is a really nice hiking tour to get there and discover. Mandatory to visit!

Be prepare to walk uphill to the Castle of the Moors. When you get to the castle, there's really not much to see except the town of Sintra and Pena palace in a distance.
