Overview
More
The Moorish Castle is a military fortification that bears witness to the Islamic presence in the region, and was probably constructed between the eighth and ninth centuries and later expanded after the Reconquista. Overlooking the town of Sintra, it served as a watchtower, guaranteeing the protection of Lisbon and its surroundings.

This was my second stop in Sintra; I used the 434 bus to get here as I was going to the two palaces as well so I had a full day with lots to do. This is basically an open-air attraction with the old Moorish...More

This is the castle you would draw as a kid when you would draw castles. Amazing structure to wander, but good early and go on a clear day to best the crowds and to appreciate the amazing views.

We got here from the train station using the 434 bus. By combining this ticket with a ticket for entrance to the Pena palace we got a 5% discount when paying at the kiosk. Involves some walking and at times some steep steps, but the...More

Admittedly you don't have to love Game of Thrones to love the views or the magic of Sintra. But Castelo dos Mouros is a medieval castle that makes you feel like you've walked back in time or into a place in Westeros. Either way it's...More

Beautiful to see and make pictures with, but depends how much time you have to spend in Sintra.. might be not worth to reach it as they are only walls..

Google it... You'll quickly find its a must see. Warning... If your not in "decent shape", give yourself extra time. There's lots of stairs and hills to climb. If you love hiking and great views, put it high on the list. We are avid outdoors...More

Fantastic Moorish castle walls but that's about it. A wall. We walked up the free part - actually we took a tuk-tuk from the bottom as it is an hour's hike up windy and steep paths and I am with my 60 almost 70 year...More

Stunning views all around the castle. It has been made as people friendly as possible with rails on steps etc, but it is very high and some of the paths Upton the very top around the turrets do have no sides and can be a...More

Highly recommended when you are in the neighborhood of Sintra : very nice setting creating a kind of magical atmosphere. Combined with the magnificent views, probably the best attraction of Sintra.

Various tour companies will take you there and then to Pena Palace in Sintra. I am not sure if you can reserve a guide on its website though.
