More
The Moorish Castle is a military fortification that bears witness to the Islamic presence in the region, and was probably constructed between the eighth and ninth centuries and later expanded after the Reconquista. Overlooking the town of Sintra, it served as a watchtower, guaranteeing the protection of Lisbon and its surroundings.

This is a wondrous place, takes me back in time and has me feeling like I'm in a lord of the rings movie. Make sure to hike up the mountain to the castle, about 40 minute walk. It's not a huge place, but the views...More

We walked up to the castle, once you've found the start of the entrance gate it is about a 40 minute walk. It is well signed and is a lovely walk through the forest, slowly up, up,up via steps and paths between the trees. We...More

This is alike the China Great Wall but in small scale. It is quite unique wall. Climbing to the top is not so hard. I was amazed the ancient people build this on the top hill. Great architecture

You can see this castle from Sintra village and on your way to Pena Palace stop here and enjoy. Sits on the cliffs with beautiful views. Worth a visit in Sintra for sure.

Be ready to climb some stairs! My husband and I enjoyed learning about the history of this castle and climbing up and down the stairs to the various viewpoints. You can see all of Sintra plus a great view of the Palace of Pena. Definitely...More

We took the bus up from Sintra and stopped here first. Some may consider passing this by in favor of the Park and Palace of Pena (which we also visited that day) but I would disagree. Walking along the castle walls was a great experience,...More

Great place to visit - should be on the must see in Sintra list. On a clear day the views were simply stunning across the valley and over the the Castello do Pena. A few stairs to reach the top, but absolutely worth it.

The road to the top the mountain is narrow and curvy so if you get sick you might want to make sure you take medication before going up. The fortress is at the top of a hill if you want to get too the top....More

Only a scenic, thirty minute train ride from downtown Lisbon, most who travel to Sintra spend their time visiting the colorful Pena palace of the last king of Portugal and the town itself. From the train station, you board a bus that takes you up...More

Due to the one-way road up past the Moorish Castle and Pena Palace, the tourist traffic runs counter-clockwise from the town, a long way up to the Moorish Castle followed soon by Pena Palace at the top, then back down into... More

Various tour companies will take you there and then to Pena Palace in Sintra. I am not sure if you can reserve a guide on its website though.
