- AmoniTrek67 contributionsWell and tunnel must visitIf you have spent 3 days in Lisbon then the fourth day should be dedicated to a visit to the beautiful city of Sintra. Of all the palaces, each of which of course has its own special beauty, the one we singled out is the regaleira. There are many possible routes To visit it, we chose from the Pena Palace to take the path through streams and paths to see the gardens in nature an INCREDIBLE route. The shortest way is from the old town of Sintra by road. Of course, there is also the option of Uber, tuk tuk, taxi and bus. But a long walk in the gardens is ideal. We singled out this palace because it had a different aura from the rest, especially the well and the tunnels were something different. Also, a stop at the small cafe just before the entrance to the palace is a must for a refreshing beer 🍺🍺🍺🍻🍻.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 7, 2024
- ClaudettBarcelona, Spain134 contributionsA must visit in SintraOur expectation was the photo of the famous well, but this villa offers much more than that! From its fantastic architecture, its beautiful furniture, its beautiful gardens, if you prepare yourself with comfortable shoes to explore it. The tour of this surreal villa makes you feel like you are in a story.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten February 15, 2024
- Ruth JLondon, United Kingdom175 contributionsMystical placeForget castles, visit Quinta da Regalia with it's mystical house and gardens. What a treat this place is to visit. Every corner in the garden built on the mountainside has a cave, grotto, waterfall or tower to see or climb on. Beautifully landscaped, make sure you climb down the well and to the top of the largest tower. Only about 20 minutes walk from the town of Sinatra you'll need to be reasonably active if you're going to fully enjoy the gardens. An absolute must to visit.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 2, 2024

Superb park. Original visit to the well. A little wait for this activity Splendid castle, less ostentatious interior. A beautiful walk of around 2 hours under the sun. 15 minutes from the city center. On foot. The whole estate is like something out of a fairytale with towers, water, bridges grottos and beautiful gardens. So much to see, we spent at least 3hours looking around at everything. Weather was sunny, so perfect for photo opportunities. Would definitely return as we probably didn't see everything.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten March 24, 2024

Lots to explore, and our two children (two and four) loved it. It’s a lot of walking and climbing, but great nonetheless.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten March 29, 2024
- Matea K2 contributionsNothing short of magicI was magical. My favorite place from the whole trip. The nature combined with the old buildings really transports you to a different time. The price was 12 Eur per person. There are maps all over the place, toilets and a coffee place. It took us about 2 hours to visit it although If the weather is nice you might want to stay there the whole day.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten March 31, 2024

For me in the top 1 of Sintra. It is advisable to buy the ticket online, not to queue. The place is beautiful, in high season of course there are many tourists, so I recommend that you try to go up to see it first thing in the morning when they open. From the train station you can catch a bus that takes you to the entrance, but you have to go in good time, because they pass every 30 min approx (depending on how the road is that day ) so it can take a little longer. At the entrance there are always tuk tuks, minibuses, 4x4 that offer to take you to any other monument you want to visit for 10€ per person , if you want to pay it ... (We did not take them) and went up to see the monuments by public transport.

It is the most beautiful and well-preserved Palace of Sintra, even if the Pena takes fame. A palace in romantic and modernist style, among others, had built by a Brazilian landowner. Both the palace and the estate is a wonder for the senses, with labyrinthine grottoes, waterfalls, fairytale pits that turn into inverted towers (9 stories towards the center of the earth), Masonic symbology, towers, etc. But to make good use of the visit to this or other palaces, you have to take a Prussian organization and a good dose of patience, to calculate climbs to the palaces, schedules, entrances, meals, etc., given the enormous mass of the small town. The Recommendation, if you go by car, is to leave this in the free parking around Avenida Alvaro de Vasconcelos and forget about it. The ticket is best bought in advance or at the information venue (Sintra Tickets & Tours) opposite the train station (which is not the same as the tourist information office inside the station, whose attention leaves much to be desired). For the Quinta da Regaleira you can go on bus 435 (in the office mentioned you can buy a ticket for 24 h that is valid for all buses, 13 €), but I recommend walking (about 30 minutes from the center) since you are likely to arrive before the bus, given the mass and the number of cars that mistakenly intend to reach the palace, where there is hardly room to park; and it must be kept in mind that the tickets have a marked time and that you can not arrive after that time. In the Palace there is a place to eat, if you do not have time to do it in Sintra (better outside the old town, where everything is more expensive). If you plan to visit other palaces, you have to keep in mind that at most you can see 2 in the day (Palace of Pena and Quinta da Regaleira, with difficulty, because they are the most crowded).

Another attraction not to be missed in Sintra. Visited in the middle of August, we recommend purchasing the ticket online (which has no times to choose from) but at least you will avoid the first queue at the entrance. Inside, the gardens can all be visited on foot, they are arranged on the side of a hill and therefore with various ups and downs. The Initiatory Well is worth the visit but, having arrived around 12, we queued for 1h20m to access it. We were unable to visit the palace due to the long queue there too. Still worth a visit if you go to Sintra.

Amazing day beautiful wacky architecture and gardens. We went on a Sunday and watched the entertainment see their website ( it was a funny mime play and youth orchestra). Queue for the well at (11:30) was very quick, I didn’t find it claustrophobic but was wet at the bottom so watch where you walk. We had 1 audio guide (5 euros) and shared and bought a map for 0.50cents. The guide was good as not much information boards around the park.
We parked at Estacionamento largo San Pedro rather than Sintra parking as I was put off by the amount of hassle people were getting there. Here was fab lovely leafy square with lots of spaces (20 min walk to left for Sintra Palace and 35mins down to here). The hop on bus also stops here. Nice restaurant Tasca D’Ana to eat at before we headed back.

It is easy to reach by walking from the historic center, 1.5 km. On the way uphill but it hurts well, quickly and easily.
We went at the end of August at 10 am (entry opening), we had an online ticket and we were ahead of those without a ticket, the groups that do not respect the line and those that do not respect because they do not respect and in this the organization could treat the visitor better.
Interesting without a doubt but from my point of view they do not take care of the visitor.
A sample of architecture and landscaping that takes you to another era in which those who could dream and execute it, undoubtedly had no financial limits to achieve it.
It's great to be able to visit it. Inside the palace there is beautiful carpentry and excellent work by professional carpenters.
However, from my point of view, they take care of the visitor:
1. They know that there are websites that scam those who search for tickets online and they don't seem to care, you go on complaining and... cri cri... cri cri..., your problem. What we had to pay 22 euros (2 visitors
We paid 48... for false audio guides... we asked at the entrance... and they sent us to the email... we went to leave the complaint in the cashier area where the staff told us and... well, thank you. ..what problem do you have...
2. You enter the route in a maze where there are very very few signs indicating the route, your problem...
To tell a friend whether to visit or on the Quinta, I would tell him to first check the other routes in Sintra (Da Pena, Nacional, Moros...); Be careful not to get scammed like me and well the place is nice, but take care of yourself!

The visit was a bit disappointing. We arrived and were amazed by the enormously long line in which we had to join. The organization was very poor and many who had booked for a certain hour arrived half an hour later so the rest had to wait even longer because priority was given to them. Once we were inside it was very unclear exactly how to walk and where to start. The view was beautiful and overall it was a nice place, but the 5 stars are exaggerated and it is very touristy. The Well, which most were curious about was not at all how you would expect it and much less impressive than in the pictures. We were also told that if you had booked tickets online that you could skip the line, there that is not the case at all. It certainly wasn't worth it. If you want to visit Sintra this is definitely not a must.

We purchased our tickets online but be aware that you still have to queue - this includes any tours also. When you get to the top and near to the entrance there was another separate line that on this occasion would have been the quicker option of gaining entry. If you are going to purchase tickets once there by pass the long line of people who already have tickets and go up to the entrance. Once you purchase your tickets at the entrance you can enter straight away rather than having to join the queue.
Once inside, if you want to go and see the well I would recommend going directly there as on the day we visited the queues for this were around 90 minutes. However, it was worth the wait as the well and the tunnels are impressive. You get a great view of the well as you move your way down and then once you reach the bottom the series of tunnels are impressive. When you come out of the well go in and out of all the tunnels as there are different parts to view. You can explore the rest of the park at your leisure as there are lots of different things to see. A must visit when in Sintra.

This is an absolute must see if you’re visiting Sintra. It’s helpful to purchase your tickets online as the ticket kiosks often have a long queue. We arrived from a suburban train out of Lisbon and purchased the public tourist bus hop-on hop-off tickets. They were 12.50 euros but it takes you exactly where you want to go and works on both the 434 and 435 lines. The bus that takes you to Quinta de Regaleira is smaller and doesn’t pass through as frequent so be sure to have a flexible schedule and some patience when taking it! They also will pack the bus to max capacity so you may need to stand. The park has so many beautiful gardens and is quite lovely the highlight is visiting the initation well- the line will be long but it moves pretty fast and the views are worth it!!

Day Sintra planned. We had left early and before opening time at the entrance. There was already a decent queue here. Turned out to be e-tickets.
Online booking is not a must as we pay locally were quicker in the grounds.
We walked 'against the direction' and was doable. The ‘palace’ was a setback.
The gardens are beautiful but the designation chaotic. You can spend hours here but expect a lot of up and down walk with slopes.
We had walked through everything in two hours.
We didn’t do the ‘well’ because there was a giant queue there.
The digital map is not clear and there could be more sanitary facilities.
Parking was recommended to do outside the old town and continue by train. Since we were early we drove to the old city center and found a good parking spot where you could park for 4.40 € four hours.

We went to the estate with a 1.9 year old child. We've read reviews that you shouldn't take a stroller with you, that you need to go in the morning because of the space queues at the entrance and into the well. But we have seen from our own experience that all these are far-fetched problems. We ordered skip the line tickets via the Internet and went through without spending a minute in line, although we arrived at 14:00 (for the child we had to take a separate, free ticket at the regular ticket office out of line). By the way, there wasn’t a long line at the box office either (it was 04/15/24). There were quite a few families with strollers walking around the area, since the roads there are quite wide and the stairs can be bypassed. To go down into the well, mothers left the stroller at the entrance to the well, around the corner, near the worker. We descended with the child in our arms (the descent is not long, but it is wet halfway up, we need rubberized shoes with a platform) easily and quickly, and then we climbed back up behind the stroller. The queue for the well seems huge, but in fact we stood for no longer than 15 minutes. I liked the place itself, we highly recommend it.

Hello, I want to visit Quinta on 31 May. If I want to enter the Palace and also go down the well , I need to buy two tickets each one for the specific activity? Or there is only one ticket that grants access to all the area including entrance to the palace?

we would like to visit quinta da regaleira, pena palace and moors castle. Can i take a tuk tuk at each of them? what is de best option, which we visit first...

I agree with Michael K above.
We took Uber to Pena Palace, and Uber to Quinta de Regaleira (skipped the Moors Castle only because we were running out of time). We actually got our Uber from Pena Palace to Quinta right outside the Moors Castle. If you exit the castle through the gardens, it’s a short walk uphill to Moors Castle.
The reason we did Uber was tuk tuks did not take card—cash only, so be prepared if you want to take the tuk tuks.
The bus from the train station does go to all three, if I remember correctly!
