You go into this beautiful hotel, up in Monte and opposite the Reception is a display of constructions in which rich and powerful Ladies and Gentlemen were being carried by local people - like in Ancient Rome. Worth seeing.

Long walk up the hill only to find it is temporarily closed. There do not appear to be any warnings of this on the website.

We had an interesting walk uphill from Funchal town centre. Small museum & some interesting gardens. When we visited it was a free enterence.

We arrived just before the lunch break when the quinta is closed from 12:30 - 14:00, so we only visited the garden. It was a very pleasant break but not worth the effort to get there as we had already visited the Monte gardens. However...More
