This "Manor Estate of the Crosses" museum is considered one of the most prestigious and well-kept museums of Madeira, which houses a splendid collection of silver, filigree and antiques that were part of a private collection of John Wetzler, a Czech citizen who lived on Madeira.

This is a great little museum at the end of a fairly long uphill walk but worth it. It will take you about an hour to see the museum, gardens and chapel and at €3 each it is a steal..

Although others may be underwhelmed, I enjoyed walking up through the cobbled streets to this museum (and stopping along the way), touring this house museum (1 hr.), and relaxing in the adjacent garden that includes birds, orchids, plants, flowers, and sweeping city views as well...More

A small quinta with a little bit of history and a wonderful silver collection. The garden was a peaceful place with a good collection of plants and old stone relics.

The museum was rather boring. Beware, when they force you to leave stuff in the lockers; all the staff may suddenly leave the museum for hours without prior notice, thus leaving you stuck and waiting.

Considering this place is listed as a must see in some guides, I was very underwhelmed by it. Yes, it is somewhat interesting with the antiquities, etc. but I would not consider it a must see. The gardens were pleasant but in need of some...More

It's a bit of a trek up the hill to get there and it closes for lunch. However, making the effort you are rewarded with a pretty quinta housing a good collection of furniture and silverware bought by islanders with proceeds from the sugar trade....More

This museum reflects the wealth and importance of Madeira in previous centuries and is housed in a fine old house filled with interesting furniture and furnishings grouped in different categories. The large display of silver & gold vases, plates, etc. is very extensive and impressive....More

The whole experience was disappointing. It's a bit off the beaten track but the Lonely Planet pointed us there. Immediately jumped upon by staff for not having a ticket (the ticket office isn't signposted as that and is further back from the museum entrance), the...More
