Although the gardens were well maintained and were good to explore the views are what made this worth a visit! We were disappointed that one section was closed where the aviary was and were not informed of this before buying our tickets.

Huge garden filled with various plants. You can take the bus up to the gardens from funchal or the cable cars, which also go further up to Monte.

Plus of course you can get there and back by cable car although noting it's two separate legs and not cheap but you can do as part of a trip up to the town further inland (forgot the name!)
