Nice garden

Very nice garden! Huge, nice area, Nov was however off season so many of the beautiful flowers were not in bloom. But the garden is not only flowers so it is worth a visit.

Definitely a must do, the gardens are beautiful and also give great views. One area was sadly destroyed by a fire, but nature is doing its bit and everything is re growing. The famous terrace is in full bloom and you get that wow moment as you follow the path from the main entrance and come across the viewing Terrance.... More

The gardens were alright and I am quite sure that as spring arrives it will be a wall of colours, I found that the best area was the cacti gardens they were amazing, when looking around there are many areas that are in disrepair, I must admit I did expect a bit more.

This was one of the must-do items on our holiday agenda, but unfortunately we were a bit disappointed. Much of the garden was shut because of the fire that happened a few weeks before our holiday; obviously that cannot be helped. However, those parts of the garden that were still open just weren't very inspiring (although the children did enjoy... More

My wife and I visited these gardens during a stop off in Funchal and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. The gardens looked splendid, even though we were probably there out of season for some plants. It was easy to get around the majority of the grounds, but there are some little slopes to navigate. Would definitely go back.

We love botanic gardens and had high hopes of this one due to the location. It costs 5.5 euros for an adult. It felt unfriendly from the start. Sadly the gardens looked shabby and rather neglected. Quite a few of the paths are beginning to break up, and many are steep with lots of steps, no adaptations for people with... More

My last visit dates back almost 20 years and the decline of those pretty gardens is very sad. Some plants suffered from the fires nearby, but basically from a botanical point of view the garden is still worthwhile. Buildings are going down the drain though, the lack of investments is evident and the gap between this garden and the gorgeous... More

Staff are not friendly at all, they also do not have a card facility, so should you need to draw money you would need to go all the way back down to the main town Centre. The gardens are beautiful though.

We caught bus up to the gardens and it was an exhilarating experience twisting up the steep hills and hairpin bends. The gardens have some lovely areas but also some neglected parts and i was very surprised there was no guide or gift shop and the space given over to the shabby natural history museum full of stuffed birds could...
