If you love orchids you will really appreciate this visit. You will NOT find rows of pretty pots with arrangements like the botanical gardens but you WILL find a working farm and a wealth of information from knowledgeable sources with a real passion for orchids....More

We decided to walk to the Orchid nursery from the centre of Funchal, it was about a kilometer uphill north east from the Mercado dos Lavradores. The streets got more and more narrow and more like cobbled tracks and paths, but just before we thought...More

We have been to a couple of Orchid Gardens in the past but they were both burnt down in the fires a few years back so decided to check this one out. Took yellow urban bus here but got off too early should have stayed...More

Wonderful collection of orchids in a working nursery - not a show garden. On the day we visited there were numerous tour groups already there but the very friendly staff still found time to speak with us and answer questions. If you fancy the exercise...More

Beautiful orchids and very friendly staff who will give you advise about your own orchids. Not a lot to see when we went there and over half of it was roped off. Recommend the small garden selling teas and coffees at very reasonable prices unlike...More

Wow wow wow . I so loved this place. Not a manicured tourist attraction but a real orchard nursery and resource of rare orchids. You can even buy small plants planted in sawdust so ok to take through customs. Lovely tea afterwards and amazing value...More

We booked a visit via our hotel which provided transport. We didn't know about this place despite previous visits and we both found it fascinating. This is not a tropical garden, it is a working nursery. The owner is very knowledgeable and happy to share...More

I can't understand the reviewers who criticise this for not being a glossy tourist attraction. It's not: it's a working nursery, not some sterile, citified florist's display, and it's an absolute delight to wander around. The plants themselves (not just orchids - insectivorous plants, stags...More
