It's not a very classy tourist-attraction, but if you love orchids, then you can see lot's of different variaties. You can get much information about how to grow and cultivate these fantastic plants. It's a small family business and small-scale. Don't forget to drink some...More

This is not a garden or a display of orchids - it is a commercial orchid nursery that charges payment for entry. When I visited less than 10% of the nursery was accessible, the rest being roped off for "staff only". Apart from the odd...More

Having a brochure of this site from a few years back we decided to give it a visit. The 32 bus took us nearby, so we followed the signs and entered via a doorway. Almost no-one about, hardly any orchids and a general run-down feel...More

After a long way up we finally found the place. It was sad to see such a nice place with great potential in such horrible conditions. It's 4.50€ and you barely see any flowers opened. It's only worth the nice view of Funchal.

A wonderful display of orchids (Sailor Boy my favourite) with Patrick, such an informed guide! Tea in the garden with cake made by Mr John a delightful surprise.

We walked from town and were exhausted and thirsty on arrival. Advice - unless you are fit and can make the stiff walk uphill take the local bus. The welcome we got was warm and friendly with refreshments on the terrace on offer. Tea, coffee...More

This is currently the only orchid nursery in Funchal, the others having been damaged in the forest fires. On arrival you are given a very good introduction about the garden. There is one shaded house with orchids in flower. Sadly the garden and nursery have...More

Sorry I cannot. I only visited the nursery. The location is away from the hub of Funchal, it is possible to walk down to the restaurants but buses or a taxi would be preferable to come back up as the hills are very steep. It... More
