We really enjoyed the baskets. A taxi took us from our hotel to the start point. That’s worth it as it’s a long way up. The baskets cost €30 for 2 of us (plus tip at the end). It didn’t go as fast as I...More

When in Madeira one can not miss "carros do monte". Once a "public transport" for those reaching the city of Funchal from the mountains, it became a major atraction for tourists. Nowadays the journey is shorter than it used to be when it was a...More

I was a little unsure when I saw people hurtling down the cobbles on wicker baskets but I am so glad that I had a go - it really is great fun and the carreiros take good care of you. Not to be missed!

Traveling down the streets in a wicker basket is a must when you visit Madeira Avoid it if there is a cruise liner in as queues can be up to 90 minutes. Straight on if the cruises are not there. It’s also a lovely straight...More

Fun, a must do while in Funchal. We used the cable car to get to the top. A five minute walk from the start of the run. Cost of a taxi from the bottom of the run is a bit expensive. Either get the bus...More

This shows the tradition of Madeira 100 years ago but the only thing we wish it was longer and its 45 euros for 3 people to go down 2 kilometers which is 6-8min?

This is a great experience, hurtling down public streets in a wicker basket. The drivers are great characters and stopped halfway down to take a picture of us on my wife’s iPhone. There are photographers situated on route and the photo is presented to you...More

We have really enjoyed the adrenaline of this ride, just be careful because the prices that the taxi drivers will ask to take you up the hill can be a rip off, there's a bus station on the surrounding area.

This is a life experience that you will never forget. It is a little scary, very funny but great fun. It is a little pricey but these people are doing it for a living and it is not easy work. My family enjoyed themselves immensely.

Taxis are metered so you shouldn't have to pay more than around 5€ from Livramento where the toboggan run ends to the centre of Funchal.
