Madeira Island’s western shores are home to natural sea pools, traditional fishing villages, soaring cliffs, and dense forests, but reaching the top sites requires local knowledge. On this tour, travel from your Canico, Funchal, or Machico hotel via air-conditioned minibus, and reach the sites with ease. Hit sites of interest including Câmara de Lobos, Porto Moniz, and the Ribeira Brava, and enjoy personal attention from your guide on this small-group tour, limited to 16 people.

A great place to look around with lots of nice restaurants and locals going about their business undisturbed by tourists.

I love to go to a traditional Portuguese restaurant as it is the only in Madeira Island - "Sabor a Fado" restaurant - you can eat a very good meal while you listen to Portuguese Fados live!!! Also, I found a new restaurant, in Portugal we call it a "tasca" - with very good local food and cheap. Please go to the "A tasca da Maria".

You can't say you have seen Funchal unless you have wandered through the Zona Velha. It's a small but vibrant part of the city with plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars. The painted doors are lovely and worth the walk alone. Do go as far as the bright yellow fort (Fortaleza de Sao Tiago) which in itself offers some great views.

So nice to see this characterful quarter being gentrified in a sustainable way. Lovely to wander around and lots of shops, bars and restaurants to keep you entertained.

It is worth taking time out and having a walk from the old fort down the street down towards the indoor market. There are lots of cafes and restaurants.
