We always make time for a stroll down Rue de Santa Maria when we visit Funchal - it's a vibrant, area with pretty painted doors and lots of cafes, bars and restaurants. There are also a lot of art studios and galleries, something different to look at each time you visit!

So often the odd photo promises much but the reality disappoints. This is completely the reverse. So much artwork to see, both in this street and other surrounding streets. Quaint old properties with many restored and a brilliant place to spend a couple of hours exploring and soaking up the atmosphere.…

We love our street art and have seen a lot of different types across the world. All very individual and so many different styles here. I loved the mermaid with the door knocker disguised in her hair and the photographer leaning in to another door to nose at what's going on. Wander right to the very top for another view point and then on your way back, take the first road on the left and head down through the lovely bars and restaurants back to the cable car area.…
