Was disappointing as there were loads of clothes stalls and souvenirs and not many traditional items. However the fruit, veg and cake stalls were delicious and good value. The cakes in northern Portugal are worth a visit alone

This market is well known for being one of the largest in Portugal. It is big but many of the stalls carry the same things. Lots of aprons etc with the Barcelos cockerel and lots of clothes, shoes and blankets. We spent half an hour...More

It was good with a nice local feel to it. You can get a good bargain. Beware of beggars as there are a lot of beggars in the area which only want money as they will not accept any food.

This is a huge market with a strong Portugese following as well as tourists. However there are lots of stalls selling the same things - how many times do you want to see the same shoes for sale? 90% of the shoes offered were on...More

I visited Barcelos' weekly market on May 1st. Maybe because it's a holiday and it's the Festival of the Crosses' week, it was incredibly crowded. It's a huge market, full with local farmers selling their produces. Also, there are many clothes stalls (beware of counterfeit)...More

Don't go to this market for shopping, do go to wonder around, enjoy the chaos and people and heaps of food, plants, domestic articles, clothing and ceramics that is sold. Huge market, so much to see and great and easy day trip from Porto (about...More
